This has always struck me as something that may be quite therapeutic, though I fear that I lack the patience. I was up in the Highlands not so long ago and a chap in a pub told me that a lot of the estate gillies will take people out to great locations to go fishing if you cross their palm with silver. 'There is one small problem', to quote "The Knights Who Say 'Ni!'", with the Highlands. It's very small and very, very annoying ....... that fearsome creature, the midge!

A nice extra present for Mum would be a copy of "Fly fishing" by J.R. Hartley, most over 40s will remember this book..
A few copies on sale at Amazon from only a couple of quid for a tatty one to about £15 for an "as new"

Great idea - can be the 'on the day present'. Thanks. (Remember it from the Yellow Pages ad.)

I've never understood the point of fly fishing........the thought of eating flies sounds disgusting However, many years ago I did catch a bat while I was night fishing, the little rascal must have got caught up in the line when casting!
