It doesn't matter whether I write a post in notepad, a word processor, or in browser (Chrome), line spacing is always f****d up.
Does anybody else suffer from this? Has anybody else managed to fix it?
Cheers,
RM

It's either bump and necro or start a new thread, but does anybody else experience double line spacing regardless of whether they use the forum direct through a browser (Chrome in my case) or copy paste from something offline like notepad or Word? It would be as interesting to find out if people use it, in whatever way, and don't get double line spacing.....
Cheers,
RM

Yep, you're right, but that's because I go back end edit (almost? most of? if there's a variant involved I don't know what it is) every post of mine.

So here is a post. Written in naked Chrome. With no line spacing.

I'll grant you that one. I'm afraid I can't help. Notepad is a Microsoft thing: I googled to make sure, and it said "Microsoft - here be dragons." I must return your problem to the collective bosoms of the non-Mac members here. (In fairness, I avoid the Mac equivalent as it seems to have no feeling for scale when printed...)

No worries, and thanks for taking a look. It's bound to be something in the midst of character encoding / MS / UNIX / line ending/ return characters etc. It's just the first forum I've encountered it on, and I am unlikely to be the only MS native so thought to ask "is there a reason"? . I will promise to try not to necro this again . EDIT: to prove I am not mad, you will see other "extra line spacing" posts, take a look at some of the copy paste posts in the SS forum for example (nothing to do with SS....).

I'm no expert on this but, I learnt to compose my posts in the forum "create post" window in Preview, but if I'm copying from another post to use the BBcode editor or I get the extra lines. I think it's something to do with the ampersand (&-amp- symbol gets mistaken for page break or new line. I've never really found out or understood it. EDIT So if you are copying/pasting use BBcode but NOT Preview as Preview will loose any links and mess with the formating. The Preview/BBcode button is at the bottom of the page when you are composing a new post.

I think you might be on to something there Ton ⓉⓞⓃ, I just wrote one post in the FC forum using the "preview" function and then copied it straight to another thread in the General forum, again using the preview function. The spacing was awry, but what was interesting was the the formatting (bold, underline and italics) was lost on the copy. BTW, I'm not expecting anybody to do anything about it, just recording the results of my "experiments" .

You need to switch to BBcode view and copy from there then paste into BBcode view on destination post, this will produce an accurate copy.

Exactly ilmoroSo registerme if you are copying/pasting use only BBcode but NOT Preview as Preview will loose any links and mess with the formating. The Preview/BBcode button is at the bottom of the page when you are composing a new post. Most posts are written using Preview but sometimes you can't get the cursor where you want it to be, but if you quickly flick to BBcode it will let you. This happens when you are composing an answer immediately below the quote and then decide to delete/backspace-delete what you've written to put it another way; only to find the cursor is now in the quote itself and won't come out. So here you flick into BBcode put the cursor where you want and then switch back to Preview.
