Funnily enough I woke up at 2am this morning ( / was woken up by a screaming 2 year old) and then only thing that I could think of as I ran him to the potty was "Sh%t. What if no-one wants them in blue??"

There's a pipeline of them lurking .... the company want to have a continual revolving facility whereby they have some being made, some being shipped, some being sold and some being delivered. Shipping containers is an awesome business to be in (that is not a recommendation to invest!).

You'd think so but actually not so much! (Please don't take any of this as an Ablrate post - it is a personal opinion and not a recommendation to invest!). A lot of what C******* C***** does is selling them for alternative uses - storage, changing rooms etc. I have looked into this far too much (!) but there are a thousand uses for these things. At the end of the day, it's a 20' x 8'6" metal box so it has a lot of alternative uses that help to keep the value up (see how much a wooden shed of the same dimensions costs).
There are also only two manufacturers of any note in the world so prices tend to be rather controlled. Global lease rates on containers have fallen but this guy isn't lease dependent at all, although if anyone fancied 7 years, 15% and investing in container leasing there is a deal to do!

I was actually wondering about structuring one for a leasing company with an amortising loan and equity-style bonus (ie. variable interest payments dependent upon utilisation). I like loans to be "interesting". . I think it would be a lot more engaging than a plain vanilla loan but may need to up my userbase slightly before getting over-complicated!

Isnt that what got the banks into trouble , trying to do 'interesting' things with their loans?

Nah. They re-packed them all and sold them to another bank, so technically they were "doing something interesting with other people's loans".

Three £150k tranches of that a month apart should go nicely and get a pipeline established, maybe a fourth. Be sure to use instant returns because that wil help them to fill quickly without much instant return cost. It's above the headline rates of most of the other UK opportunities so they should be a good draw for new lenders. £150k because he might well be able to scale his business at that rate and because I think that's a size that will fill very fast. That future deal flow may help him to get a lower purchase price if you commit to offering them here unless he's late paying or worse. There's a lot of money floating around uninvested at the moment and if you get one of those available a week from now I doubt it'd take even a week to fill.

If Ablrate did something in this space I would be interested. I had briefly looked at container leasing a while back. The 12%+ returns looked promising but some of the operators attracted a wide variety of reaction, for instance, Pacific Tycoon - and there was talk of scams. The problem was that the operators seemed to be in the States or Hong Kong and I didn't get a warm feeling in terms of security so I didn't get very far. The other issue was that the rates through these companies were dollar based so I would have to take currency risk.

Pacific Tycoon is weird. Very weird.
If you look up PT on the web there are two sorts of hit on Google :
1. THIS IS A SCAM!!!! 2. INVEST IN PACIFIC TYCOON AND EARN 12%!!!!
However, you will never find anyone who admits to being scammed and you will never find anyone (that is definitely NOT a plant) who will admit to making a fortune out of them. So is one of them right or is the truth somewhere in between? The more I get acquainted, the more I think that it is a credible business model... with the right people running it.

There is the potential for additional revenue to be generated if the containers could be filled for the trip from China to Europe.
