1st post, and I've decided to dip my toes into p2p investing with 50 in this investment and 50 in the Scottish land ! Does that sound sensible ? Will make more investments as I see the interest start to return You'll find people here have very different toe size definitions and therefore ideas of sensible. Only you can say what you feel comfortable risking, and over time that may well change - far better to feel more comfortable as you gain experience than less!! Just make sure you spread it around within/across platforms.

Just make sure you spread it around within/across platforms. Yes, without being flippant, you've effectively got your P2P exposure diversified across two loans on one platform, which would normally be a big no-no. If £100 is the total amount you feel able to lose (as that's what can happen in P2P) then you might like to consider spreading your investment more widely, both on Saving Stream and other sites. With that said, there are very few places you would be able to diversify sufficiently with such a relatively small investment.

jimbob: My biggest lesson in starting in P2P is not to be too impatient in deploying your funds in a sensible diversified way. I was too gung-ho when I started and invested too much in some loans which are now in trouble (not on this platform). My advice would always be that no matter how attracted you may be to a loan only expose yourself to what you can "live with" if things go belly up. Eventually you will, over time end up with a well diversified portfolio that shouldn't give you sleepless nights. By the way ,I think this is a great platform if you approach it sensibly .

Hey Jonno - that's my plan, I've invested £100 into the waste energy thing with ablrate now too - £1k would get me 1% extra through cashback, but that'll be a bit much on a total portfolio size of ~£5k that I'm aiming for. I take it some other platforms auto diversify though the returns seem a touch lower. I'm happy with an element of risk as my hobbies include betting on politics where I had a not insignificant sum tied up before the last GE ^_~ Going to claim that £20 with Ratesetter now methinks

Might be worth you signing up with Funding Secure too as they have a steady trickle of asset-backed loans at 12/13%, some with pretty small bid limits (£50 / £100).
Also MoneyThing if/when some new loans emerge (nothing other than renewals currently, which definitely requires "fastest finger first" to bag any).

Don't write it off too soon, we may not have seen the last of it yet. The £100k that was bought late last night looks like it was sold again in the early hours of this morning and quickly bought by another investor, so making £33 interest overnight without having to stump up the funds. Maybe someone's going to bat it back and forth between two accounts. Edit: No sooner said and it reappears - along with the other £5k they picked up this morning.

If new then you need to diversify to 100+ loans to spread risk, that what FC taught us. It was easy with FC but with FC changes and rates down you will need to do this across multiple platforms and it will take time. Personally am sticking mostly to asset backed loans across FC,LC,Rebs,SS, AC and maybe AR. I don't trust Directors guarantees, not worth paper written on. Look out for slippery, slimy borrowers.

Hi, has anyone managed sell any of this recently? how long did it take to sell?
I have my 'spare' funds sitting there for 'redistribution', but I don't know how much of the current c£78k is underwriters and how much is true sellers.
Im worried that if I try and sell it will sit there and not earn interest
thanks

Its been well over a week since launch so any original failed PF sums should have been released back onto the market long ago.

Probably best if I'm patient then - it's still earning interest
... and if anyone wonders, it's £3k, so while it's a lot to me it won't distort the whole market once released ! ... if only I had that much invested.

Why not just try selling a small amount and see how quickly it goes? You don't have to sell the whole 3k in one go

I had big chunk PBL58 sitting there for days, asked SS to cancel it, which they did and said there were still lots of people in front of me
Learnt now to release in small amounts otherwise can get jammed up waiting to sell

I have my 'spare' funds sitting there for 'redistribution', but I don't know how much of the current c£78k is underwriters and how much is true sellers. Im worried that if I try and sell it will sit there and not earn interest thanks From memory this loan was down to around £1k when £105k of sales disappeared from the "Investment Activity" tab and reappeared as "Available" for investment, so it would seem that was an ordinary SM sale. A while later about another £70k was added to the pot but I have no idea where that came from. However, it's not the sort of figure SS would normally release or typical of their timing, so unless it was an unpaid for PF loan part re-released by SS then it would seem that was an ordinary SM sale too. If the second £70k-ish was an SS re-release it would be interesting to know how that would be treated in the sales queue. Since all that happened the amount available for investment has been up and down like a yo-yo, so there must be lots of queued sales in the currently remaining £75k.
