I manage my Dad's SS account for him. He made a BACS transfer last Friday from his bank, and made the deposit on the SS website at the same time. There is still a BACS deficit showing. In my account this is usually reconciled much quicker than that. Is it usual to take so long?
Thanks

No, I suggest dropping an email to SS.

I'm pretty sure my BACS deficit was auto cleared by SS today without me having to click the Offset BACS Deficit with Available Funds option.
I had a BACS deficit from yesterday after PBL 62 and 63 went live. I'd put a few bits up for sale to cover the deficit and when I checked this morning with a view to off setting my available funds against the BACS deficit, it had already been done and my available balance had been reduced accordingly.
Not a problem - it saved me doing it - just an observation. Unless I'm going mad and I did it without realising or remembering I'd done it.

It generally has taken SS a day to recognise my deposits and clear the "BACS deficit" so for example, if I make a bid today via pre-funding and transferred the money by faster payment this morning, the BAC deficit warning would generally be cleared by tomorrow afternoon.

I've been clearing BACS deficits for 3 accounts on a daily basis for the last week or so. All have been cleared within the day. So I would follow stevets recommendation.

With Barclays Online Banking you can download a PDF receipt of the BACS payment. I do this everytime in case there is a problem. Maybe other online banks have that option?

Thank all. My Dad doesn't do online banking (which doesn't help!). He's on the phone to someone at SS now to resolve it.

It only appears (next to your BACS deficit figure) once you have enough Available Funds in the account to cover the entire BACS deficit.

No, I suggest dropping an email to SS. Too late they already dropped me one. My responese "All my payments are made by Faster Payments and arrive at every account I have tested within a few minutes. So it would help if your system did the same! "

Looks like they are tightening up. Just got a reminder about deficit from 30/9 launches. They already had the funds just needed to push the offset button. Possibly related to CB offer as funds have to be cleared to get it so theyre sending reminders so people dont miss out.

Seems odd to me that they don't automatically offset newly transferred funds against your existing BACS deficit when they credit them to your account. I received an email earlier confirming my latest deposit (which was for a little less than their automatically generated funding deficit, given the Sept interest just received), yet still had to log in and press the offset button to clear the deficit.

Guess it depends whether one's transfer matches the auto-generated funding deficit figure or not. In my case (using dummy figures), I received an auto-generated request for 104, knew I was going to receive 5 in interest within hours so transferred in a round 100. This morning I received an email confirming the 100 had been credited but, on logging in, still found I had the BACS deficit of 104 with Available funds of 105, which I then needed to offset manually. If I'd not been around today then presumably I too would have been chased to clear my deficit.

Yeah - same here - funds were available from sales and I hadn't clicked the button yet.
