Funding Secure is worth a try - 6 mth asset back loans for 12-13%pa. Its difficult to deploy a large amount of cash, but it should be good for £5k and helps diversification. A whole range of assets are lent against in a pawn broker type set-up. I've had one loan default and 100% recovery via auction of the asset held as security which has given a bit of comfort that the process works. No SM, so liquidity could be an issue for some, but all loans have a 6th term and are either settled or rolled over as a new loan. Really dislike the fact FS doesn't pay interest or principle until the loan is over. Increases risk.

Once upon a time there were three little pigs. One pig built a house of straw while the second pig built his house with sticks. They built their houses very quickly and then sang and danced all day because they were lazy. The third little pig worked hard all day and built his house with bricks. A big bad wolf saw the two little pigs while they danced and played and thought, “What juicy tender meals they will make!” He chased the two pigs and they ran and hid in their houses. The big bad wolf went to the first house and huffed and puffed and blew the house down in minutes. The frightened little pig ran to the second pig’s house that was made of sticks. The big bad wolf now came to this house and huffed and puffed and blew the house down in hardly any time. Now, the two little pigs were terrified and ran to the third pig’s house that was made of bricks. The big bad wolf tried to huff and puff and blow the house down, but he could not. He kept trying for hours but the house was very strong and the little pigs were safe inside. Personally I'm (mostly) sticking with the third pig but each to their own. So you're investing in Pork belly futures like in Trading Places?

I had deliciousscrummycrunchytasty pork belly for dinner tonight . Incidentally, only beaten on the protein value for money stakes by lentils. Anyway, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned lendingcrowd in this thread. They're the closest analogue to the original FC as is available now (afaik). They're not perfect, in that there are some rough edges, but they might be worth a look.

I just had a quick look and noticed their promotion of £100 if £1,000 is invested by the end of Nov. Can anyone give a view on the chances of being able to signing up now and deploying £1,000 in a half decent PM or SM loan in the next 10 days?

Money&Co also seems to look a lot like FC, but I expect the whole Nicola Horlick thing puts people off. Haven't actually tried it.

There's enough on the SM to do it. One Live loan Auction finishes tomorrow but they can be a little slow drawing down...... Plus there's a £50 referral fee up for grabs

Yup, it's a doddle to invest your £1000 via the SM in no time. I found it best then progressively to sell back my SM parts to reinvest at higher rates in new PM loans as they come through

Just register and have a look around. If you like it transfer the money. Done. Lendingcrowd: signed up, deposited money and fully invested (bar £40) all within 20 mins (I was fortunate that an auction was closing). Looks like a clean simple website. I did call them to clarify their £100 promotion for £1,000 invested by end of Nov. Their T&C's state that you have to remain invested in the qualifying loans for 12 months to keep the bonus. I was told that these terms are to stop people joining, buying loans, claiming bonus, and then selling up. I was assured that in practice as long as I remain reasonably invested (and not necessarily in the original qualifying loans purchased on the SM or PM) the bonus would be honoured.

Did you miss out on the additional £50 referral bonus? Regarding staying invested for 12 months, this clarification occurs elsewhere in this thread (or somewhere else on the forum).

It was actually clarified on the LC forum. Stevet prompted me on the referral so that's bagged another £50. All I need to do now is refer the missus and I'll be done for the day............
