Hi all
Does anyone know if and which p2p lending sites are available to non citizens/residents of their host country?
So far, I only am aware of Isepankur and Fixura.
BTW any views on Fixura?
Thanks

Isepankur can be used buy anyone in the EU. Not used it myself. It offers very high interest rates but with much higher default rates than Zopa have ever had.

I'm not involved on the compliance side of the business but I'm pretty sure that as long as we can check your identity (for anti-money laundering reasons) then you can lend on Assetz Capital. Our automatic checks only work in the UK but there is an option to prove your identity offline.

Thin Cats certainly allows non-UK residents (not sure about non citizens). Some of the more active posters on its forum are ex-pats.

Trust Buddy. I'll be curious to know more about them. One can't tell much from their website before putting money into the account. Actually I've created an account but then it turned out they are not very good communicators. I've asked in what currency should I transfer the money and someone from their team got my question totally wrong - he adviced me in which EU country is best to invest. I've asked the question again, as clearly as possible but again it was not answered satisfactory. They claim to respond to querries in 24 hours, but obviously that's not case. Please share your experience.

I am resident and a taxpayer in France. i have been accepted by both Thincats and Assetz. I also have funds at isePankur. Other platforms which say they accept EU residents in their T & Cs are rebuildingsociety and Pret d'Union in France. Also I think another Estonian site Omaraha.

Be The Lenders position is the same as Assetz Capital. As long as we can verify your identity you can lend on the platform.

I was able to register with Omaraha, it took about an hour yesterday for them to approve my identity, which involved giving my address which already had the country filled in (from my IP address). There was then a return email check and a code sent to a mobile phone to be entered. All very efficient.

I just came across TrustBuddy in Sweden, in the news as it has raised millions in new shares and lending funds. It has a British section for lenders who can deposit funds in £ which is interesting for another european platform. They are asking for NI number or NHS number for the registration in English. They say they lend to 7 different countries.

Regarding TrustBuddy (TB). I'm a Swedish citizen and I have invested money through TB and I would definitely NOT recommend anyone to use TB. I won't go in to details but two things that would keep you away - not transparent regarding where your money are invested and really bad to communicate with (long response time and not very nice). Also when I tried to withdraw money they made it really hard and kept coming up with bad excuses.
Right now I'm investing through Isepankur, which I would say offers the exact opposite - very transparent and easy to communicate with.
I hope that helped someone even though it was a short answer.

Is that correct? If so, why? As I understand it the US tax laws make it very risky for foreign entities to accept money from US citizens living abroad. If the citizen is found to be dodging tax then the deposit taker bears some responsibility and can suffer dire consequences. (According to my hazy memory of an article in The Economist recently.)

And also the laws (in the USA) vary from State to State. It's a minefield over there.
