To duck. You've done well to do that, unless you are staring at your screen all day refreshing the available loans page constantly!

The time to buy via the SM is in the hour or two after a new loan launches. Many thousands can be invested very quickly across multiple loans in these periods. Trying to pick up scraps when almost no-one is selling is a mug's game.

Trying to pick up scraps when almost no-one is selling is a mug's game. I've found the first couple of hours almost too hectic, I tend to give it a few hours unless there is a specific loan that I want. If I want a specific loan I just wait for that and ignore all the other noise.
No I don't spend all day in front of the screen, life in my workshop machining titanium is much more fun

I am new to SS (decided to try it after being tired of having idle money in AC) and was precisely wondering if there was an automated way of grapping loans on SM, like we have on AC. From this feed I understand it is not offered by SS then ?
I do have noticed when logging in on SS some units being offered but dont last long.
So best way of building a loan book is through Pre bid on the new loans ?

So best way of building a loan book is through Pre bid on the new loans ? Pre bidding is pretty essential. However I would suggest also having a review of the existing loans and determining what you might like in them, eg on a post it next to the PC. Then when an event occurs which generates a lot of secondary sales such as a new loan, if you are watching you may be able to pick up the amount you were interested in holding. Despite the competition for parts, I'm now only 2 loans outstanding from the selection which is currently live via this approach. YMMV.

I have only 1 thing to say to those using bots..... How very selfish of you! Possibly selfish but AFAIK not illegal and not contrary to SS T&Cs. I don't like bots because I don't have the skill to write one and they put me at a disadvantage. But an unfair disadvantage? probably not. People with more money than me can get more so why not people with more skill? Of course if SS did the simple and decent thing and banned them in the T&C and also stopped them by programming if that is possible then it would be different.

Given I will be working on a simple bidding bot, any answer would be helpful:
a) In which part of the SS T&C is automated bidding mentioned? I cannot find it. Hence I think it is not forbidden.
b) Why do you think automated bidding is in any way cared by SS? (there is plenty of bot usage on the SS SM and none is stopped or even traced I think).
c) in which way would automated bidding deter people from investing? The goal for SS is to find investment cash and this is done in the primary market (very successfully as we see in Loan 74). The main goal for the secondary market is liquidity and you can say everything against bots, but certainly they can only help reaching liquidity faster!

c) in which way would automated bidding deter people from investing? With only a few new loans being released every month -- anyone know how many were released in 2015? -- it would take quite a few months to build up a diversified loan portfolio without a SM. If it's impossible to buy on the SM because bots are buying everything as soon as it's offered, then a new investor can't use the SM to help diversify their portfolio. Anyone who felt uncomfortable with an undiversified portfolio would be deterred from investing.

About 3 months to diversify across 20 loans based on my recent experience with my parents, taking ops as and when they arose (which they did) but not sitting F5 all day
