It probably doesn't need to be too much more sophisticated, since the benefits of bot use on SS are quite small (compared to eg the stock market, or 'last minute bid and flip' on FC), so the incentive to develop a smart one which can get around even simple prevention is not there. Would be good if they'd amend their T&Cs though, so their actions align with the stated intent. You hide your seething very well. Considering it was people like you who caused all this in the first place. You're deeply confused .. I voted to ban them weeks ago, and looks like I may finally have caused it to happen. I'd still rather have some sort of allocation than captcha-cr&p, but even this is an improvement over where we were when people were claiming there were no such things as SM bots. Maybe the threat to release the source code was unnecessary. 8>.

Maybe his threat to give everyone the facility was what eventually made SS get off their a***s/head out of the sand etc. I suspect that SS did what they always do, quietly watched the thunder & fury as everyone ranted & speculated, looked to see what impact it had on their business model, decided if that impact was sufficient to warrant a response, investigated their options, decided the one that suited them best, went to the pub while their techies did their thing, unleashed the solution, sat back with a cup of tea and watched to see whether the response was positive or negative, patted themselves on the back and went back to sorting loans out.

I think the fact that 90% of SS's lenders wanted rid if bots had more to do with it than the twisted logic of the botmeisters

As I see it he was reacting to it in the way that his skills allow.

And if he hadn't, we would still be where we were before. He was not part of the problem. Too many people (not he) denied there was a problem. He openly decided to prove there was a problem. When still nothing was done, he threatened to give everyone the facility so that no-one was at such a disadvantage. Presumably that would have inundated the SS website so they had to address the problem.
End of problem ... for now.

And he made sure EVERYONE knew about it. I think that whether we want it or not we were all part of the problem as we all (at least collectively) want to invest more money or diversify. That is why we try to buy on the SM.

And he made sure EVERYONE knew about it. Should this read 'And he kindly and in a spirit of openness and fairness made sure EVERYONE knew about it.' Would agree with above that GSV3MIaC was part of the solution, not the problem

He may not have started it, but he was part of the problem. And he made sure EVERYONE knew about it. Should this read 'And he kindly and in a spirit of openness and fairness made sure EVERYONE knew about it.' ... Thus ending the debate over whether there were bots operating on SS and forcing the pace on finding a solution.

Either way its now sorted than to Saving Stream.
I'm glad we can now put the "Bot" threads to bed.

We all need to move to the "Please tick the box to confirm you are not a robot" thread.
