This discussion is not very becoming. Andy's wife's charity is not a subject to debate and not part of Albrate. We are just offered the opportunity to contribute if we wish. If we do not then we do not need to knock it as an excuse. If we don't like it and don't want to contribute then why is there a need to say anything? I’m not knocking the charity itself, however, a post on this forum should be open for discussion. If this isn’t the case then my comment above about one sided debate is justified. No-one is stopping you saying what you wish, and the fact that you have made six of the fifteen existing posts on this thread rather negates that suggestion, and the idea about one sided discussion. Though you may not intend it the statement 'charity begins at home' will be taken by many as suggesting that this one is less worthy. Clearly you have decided not to contribute, and that is fine, but your posts will be interpreted as wishing to influence others not to, or else what is the purpose?

There was no intention of suggesting this charity is less worthy than any other or an attempt to influence other people. What this thread has done is to highlight middle class angst about crises abroad which are often perceived as being of greater concern than those in the UK but I bet if economic migrants were to turn up in many middle class neighbourhoods there would be a strong whiff of nimbyism in no time.

This thread has wandered too far from it's innocent intention, and is now locked. Current world problems and politics may be discussed in many parts of the internet. I get confused enough with just the financial discussions here.
