Of all the possible solutions to bots, adding a CAPTCHA is by far the laziest, and also the smallest step forward. For instance, I have twice seen purchases vanish before the captcha had even appeared! It makes no difference to me whether it's bots that stop me investing or anything else. The current system favours fastest fingers, fastest computer and fastest internet connection, not to mention, people who have time on their hands. And without discussing the technicalities, I for one could easily write something that would defeat the tick box nonsense using traditional programming tools (unless it goes further by showing images). Thus, in combination with browser extensions, if the intention to cheat is there, people will find a way. It's also worth mentioning again what I said in another thread: the current system violates equalities legislation, because it places disabled people at a distinct disadvantage. It would only take one person to complain, and SS would have to ditch it. If and when there is a person who needs such a change, it is my opinion that they should contact SS to find a solution which does not put the rest of the community at a disadvantage / cause harm or annoyance. I am sure that SS will find a way if the need arises.

ablender So you expect SS to provide anyone with upper body impairment with a dedicated purchasing system which places them exactly equal with other people - DREAM ON!

ablenderSo you expect SS to provide anyone with upper body impairment with a dedicated purchasing system which places them exactly equal with other people - DREAM ON! May I ask you if you suffer from such impairment? Or do you know of anyone who does and is investing on SS? If the answer to any of these questions is yes I advice you to contact SS. As to my opinion, you cannot stop developing systems as the technology permits just because not everyone is able to use them. If you prefer systems with queues or any other waiting mechanisms there are various other platforms. You cannot expect that the world becomes homogenous.

Can I start complaining that people are not selling the loans I want to buy? This is not fair.

Those same users would be disadvantaged with or without capcha as I doubt they would have the fastest fingers.

Well the act itself (rather than the webpage you quoted from that simply references the act) makes this very clear statement:- Discrimination arising from disability (1)A person (A) discriminates against a disabled person (B) if— (a)A treats B unfavourably because of something arising in consequence of B's disability, and (b)A cannot show that the treatment is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim. (2)Subsection (1) does not apply if A shows that A did not know, and could not reasonably have been expected to know, that B had the disability.

And yet amazingly bookmaker sites are not taken down for offering In play betting just because someone isn't quick enough to cash out their bets before a goal was scored. So in essence these bookmakers are excluding the disabled from their in play markets. I think you'll find you're barking up the wrong tree here. Access to a site does not include speed of access, only access itself. Disabled people are not being prevented from accessing the SM, are they

Nows your chance oldgrumpy , you can legitimately complain to SS that you are discriminated against by their system as they should be well aware by now that you are a gorilla who is only able to access sites using a banana

Will you allow someone who has upper body impairment to drive a car because they want to? If yes who will have to pay for the car? Remember that if your eyesight is not good enough you will not even get a driving license. If anyone mentions self-drive cars when they become commercially available - I will still argue that it is the car which is driving not the individual. And who will have to buy the car in this case? Equality Act is not meant to put other people at a disadvantage so that it reduces the disadvantage of some. If such a thing had to happen I will argue that my rights to use all my faculties are being infringed. As I said before if you have a specific cause for concern or a particular problem, then contact SS for a solution. It is useless talking about hypothetical situations (some users - who?) as we do not know all the variables.

Oh dear... It's not the captcha that's discriminatory, but the entire process of buying on the secondary market!
When SS began trading, with a slow market, there would not have been a problem. However, times have changed and SS has not changed with them.
The entire secondary market is unfit for purpose from the buyers perspective. It works fine from the sellers' point of view, but so would queued prefunding (or any other prefunding model).
It's also fair to say that the "Rise of the Machines" was entirely predictable, and it shows extremely poor judgement on the part of SS management that they were so far behind the curve on this issue.
