It's far from a shambles. If you pay attention to previous loans and what's been launched recently you can work out with some precision what level to prefund. I was allocated within 10% of what I was looking for in all 4 loans (fractionally light on tranche C, a little over on A and D) and so had to sell none of it. I attempted this. I was a chunk under for a,b and c, but tweaked d on the fly. Overall within 10% of target but mainly due to d. Not critical of SS though, I had underestimated their attraction to fill a loan of that size so well. Kudos to them.

The allocation ratio will continue to fall as people pre-fund more and more. Soon we will be pre-funding 100 times what we really want. Where will it end?

It will be interesting to see what the factor is for the next £1M loan if there aren't three other loans going live at the same time. Total pre-funding for today's four tranches was a bit more than £20M!

I suggest if people are not prepared to give up their precious "invest now pay later" perk then the proportion of total portfolio that can be prefunded without cash is reduced to, say, 10%.

Per loan, rather than total? How about where there are multiple tranches? Let's not forget, though, that these Bedford farm loans totalled more than 10% of the total loan book - so if that 10% cap had been applied to the total of all tranches, then it would not have filled, even if everybody had been hard up to that cap.

Let's not forget, though, that these Bedford farm loans totalled more than 10% of the total loan book - so if that 10% cap had been applied to the total of all tranches, then it would not have filled, even if everybody had been hard up to that cap. Unless there were some who topped up with a lot of cash. Also keep in mind that there is a minimum cap of £10k for people like me who do not add up to £10k. Having said that, I felt pity for you so I did not take my share.

I admit I plucked the figure of 10% out of the air. If my idea was adopted in principle than SS would work out, for each loan, a figure likely to comfortably fill the loan meaning only small reductions in allocations. I think they have enough data to calculate this reasonably accurately.

My account is larger than £10k. When I checked a few weeks ago, my pre-funding limit was set at the largest step that didn't exceed my total account value. I've added to my account since then, and when I look at the pre-funding drop-down list right now it's greater than it had been before, but it's still at the largest step that doesn't exceed my current total account value. I expect it is updated automatically whenever an account that's larger than £10k grows or shrinks.

I didn't disagree with the second part of your sentence. As I understand it the caps are:= Loan book + cash in account < £10k ~ pre-fund cap = £10k Loan book + cash in account > £10k ~ pre-fund cap = Loan book + cash in account, rounded down to nearest pre-fund band. Loan book + cash in account > £250k ~ pre-fund cap = £250k? And as mikes1531 has confirmed, an investors pre-fund caps vary with their current situation. In Edit: my point was principally that there is a limit to it, although I doubt it'll get there.
