Apparently this may be a candidate: Couldn't resist. And suspect a deliberate trap was laid.... either way, we now have contradictory apparent statements of facts and the board most definitely now contains errors even if before it was squeaky clean. So let's just not mention names at all, eh? And not say anything horrible too.

I think James is right that you can libel an incorporated company, and that a company can libel you. You certainly can libel a company.

What seems really unfair discrimination is that an incorporated company is a legal person but cannot marry - nether a person nor another company, and a merger is not really the same thing. Hopefully it is just a matter of time.

Hopefully it is just a matter of time. True, but I can think of a few conjugal activities that do go on between companies - consensual and otherwise.

I feel I have been screwed several times by defaulters on here!

>>>What complete rubbish this is. I can't believe it's being left unchallenged. You can't libel a company. Awash with errors, really? If this is so you should be able to point to several specific ones. Or even one? Off you go then.
If find the tone of this reply unnecessary. This board has been well moderated and is good natured and if we want ordinary people to post their opinions on this board then please treat them with respect.
You *can* libel companies, and i have been on a number of magazines that have failed to defend libel actions against companies (not individuals) and the most dangerous company is one that is about to go bankrupt as they can then claim that your libel caused that bankruptcy ie show clear damage. There will be a lot of firms like that seeking P2P loans

It's one thing to express your own emotions in a vivid style eg. I am incensed: but it really should be backed up with fact, based on knowledge, rather than bluster and rhetoric. Interesting and/or amusing posts are welcome on this forum. Intemperate posts just raise everyone's blood pressure.

As I have said earlier and having discussed the matter at length the laws now surrounding "defamation/libel" are a complete nightmare for the layman. At one time you could reasonably get away with prefacing a statement with "In My Humble Opinion" and everyone in law is still entitled to "their personal opinion" despite many laws that have diluted this, like the Race Relations Act, etc. But the very big "But" remains can you afford to go to Court to defend your opinion against a person or organisation with deeper pockets than you, even though you are in the right?

There will be a lot of firms like that seeking P2P loans Jack I can only agree with you Jack, and for Captain Confident here are two very well known and highly publicised cases the second one leading to calls for libel law reform: MacDonald's MacLiable - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald%27s_Restaurants_v._Morris_%26_SteelBritish Chiropractic Association v Simon Singh - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon_Singh#Chiropractic_lawsuit_and_backlashHaving been on the committee of a club based around a forum where the forum was public but the ability to post was based on subscription it was quite daunting to receive notice that a business is about to take legal action against you over thread that for the most part contained factual but negative information about a company. As a properly constituted club we had funds and thus were able to seek legal opinion, however although the opinion was that we would in terms of the law stand a good chance or winning the advice was not to fight as it would bankrupt the club leading to the demise of the club and the forum. Much to the chagrin of the members (who believed we had kowtowed to a business that was acting poorly if not illegally towards it customers) the thread was removed.
