I have a distant memory of a "young" solicitorious publishing repeated cut and pastes of an earning rates table. With much tongue in cheek it is fair to say the forum has improved vastly since he finally stopped. As Andrew Holgate might say, if you don't like what you read then don't. On the other hand it is good to see so many newbies fighting through the jungle to find this centre of information and joining in the debate. I think I learn as much from newbie's questions as say from Mike's words of wisdom,

I agree that we have money here invested, and talking about myself, I do not want to loose it, but I do not want to see this forum to become a dry environment. I want to be able to interact on a human level and that includes humour. If someone does not like this, I think they have the right to ignore it, but I do not think they have the right to tell others not to be humorous.

I probably shouldn't have "liked" that. But the devil in me made me do it.

I could not agree more, sometimes i come onto the forum to find a bit of information i need, search a few threads, and nearly always find what i am looking for, other times i notice a thread that interests me, and join the discussion, but other times, when feeling a little bored (and mischievous) i come on here and go straight to the chat side, i have in the recent past, posted a couple of totally Innocent pics which i thought humorous, but then realized, that really, i should not have done that, but slowly we learn where certain behavior is acceptable and where it is not. Unfortunately what no one can do, is post and hope never to upset anyone.

Regrettably, I have noticed a deterioration in the quality of posts since the turn of the year, with a corresponding increase in the quantity of rubbish, which seems to be growing exponentially. What do you consider to be rubbish? Some key things to a healthy forum are: 1. Very free discussion of the core subject matter, a failure here is the one that I think is most likely. 2. Banter and jokes. But not always everywhere throughout the business discussions because they raise the noise level while also being good for community building. A challenge here is that there are many boards and each would need its own fun area to do the community building job well, as well as also an overall one. 3. A lack of personal attacks, as distinct from frank criticism, comment and discussion about things and arguments rather than people. 4. A sufficient staff pool to do the required work, with 2 being a particular challenge because it's not something that is normally reportable but does take significant work to handle, ideally more than all other admin work combined. Yet the community building is important and it has to be accepted that people always joke around while building relationships. This also requires moderators with more than just passing familiarity with the platforms in the areas where they are moderating because actual knowledge of how a platform works is sometimes required. 5. Self-restraint by moderators. Nothing is often the best response and failing that, even a small token reaction is likely to be sufficient most of the time. In the past I've moderated the off topic section of a board for some of the best sysops around, the former crowd at CompuServe in their private forum. As well as running one of their forums myself. There's room for improvement in 2 here, one start might be a dedicated joking around topic for each platform board that can take the business discussion joking around if it lasts more than a few posts. 1 and 4 might be helped by using dedicated moderation accounts for each moderator to more clearly delineate "official" speech as distinct from personal speech. It's not strictly necessary but some moderators here are particularly concerned about liability issues and per-person role accounts can help with this, providing a way for a moderator to speak personally without an official label on that speech, without concealing the identity of the moderator concerned.

[Mod note]
Its late. I've just removed 13 posts from public view on this thread. (Sorry if I've accidentally removed anything useful to the discussion on the serious question posed by the OP of this poll)
brin you have only been a member on this forum for a relatively short period of time. Offensive language has no place on this forum and will always be removed by the mod team. Having reviewed your original text which is read-only in the moderation database, I too would have removed it had I come across it before others. It doesn't matter whether it was an accidental typo or not, such language has NO place on this forum. Please reflect on this before posting.
EDIT:
brin I've removed your response to this post. Would you please read the PM I have sent you before posting on the forum again please.

To avoid having to continually moderate out offensive language from this thread it is being locked and the poll closed.
I don't think making the forum subscription only will work, total closure though is a distinct possibility.
