Anyone else getting a black & white banner at the top of their SS pages saying something about an email being sent, to produce ID documents?
What's that all about?
I haven't had an email asking for ID info/documents.

Anyone else getting a black & white banner at the top of their SS pages saying something about an email being sent, to produce ID documents? What's that all about? I haven't had an email asking for ID info/documents. I asked the same thing, so I contacted SS and got the following reply Hi *********, We sent out a verification of identification email to some of our investors. Some of which were worried about it being a scam so we sent out another email confirming that it wasn't, nothing to worry about. Kind regards, Customer Services Team Saving Stream

I haven't gotten a request to upload documents from SS either, but just yesterday (?) I received an email from another P2P platform (FS), asking me to verify/ upload documents. Seems to be that at the end of the first half of the year the platforms make sure again that they comply with all the legal/ anti-money-laundry regulations...

If was a strange way of communicating. I suppose that the web site, being apparently via SECURE connection, is a good way to confirm that a genuine email had been circulated, in case someone suspected that they had received spoof/fake email(s).

It strikes me as somewhat risky - giving a blanket confirmation that ANY email purporting to be from Saving Stream and asking for ID documents is genuine... Suppose someone now launches a phishing attack asking people to upload documents to www.savingstreamverification.example.com, a site owned by the attacker. "But I logged on to the SavingStream website, and it said it was genuine!" Edit: right now that's a highly unlikely scenario when SS is such a niche player, unlikely to draw the attention of phishers... they'll tend to get more hits claiming to be from a major bank with lots of customers, unless they've somehow got a more targetted email list.

Exactly, that is the rather fatal flaw in their cunning plan. But I would find it slightly more persuasive than simply a follow-up email telling me that "by the way, our previous email was genuine"

I haven't had an email asking for ID info/documents. Got the email. Questioned it. Turned out that SS did not in fact need anything ( as I suspected). My company account seemed to trigger some sort of flag.

I suppose if it says (as it sort of does) 'if we have already asked you..' then it is less open to future abuse (although a datecode would be good .. i.e. 'our emails sent on 28th June 2016'). I tend to treat everything as a scam until proven otherwise (the best one yet was a postcard, purporting to be from the local police, asking me to phone (a [disguised] premium rate number) to give details of my evidence in some accident case). Apart from anything else the banner is hiding some of the stuff at the top of the web page. 8<.

I have not been asked to send in any ID stuff and I wasn't when I joined up a few years ago.
I'd like to know what sort of people have to send in ID. Is that for people who live abroad or who aren't British or for company accounts or something?
I also thought of the security problem in putting on your website that if you are asked to send in your documents it is genuine.

I have seen no such email either.
However, always access the site in the normal way, never click the link in an email, then you know you can submit the required documents safely or identify fraud if the site does not confirm the email.
Also, don't reply to the email, contact independently when sending a reply / documents.

The sort of people are people like me - no mortgage since 1993, last purchase on credit in mid '70s, never had a credit card in my life. In other words no credit = no credit rating. I nearly always have to send in ID.

I nearly always have to send in ID. I see. Thanks. I like your style. My father was a great disapprover of credit and borrowing and buying things on the Never Never. He always used to tell me when I was young that if you haven't got the money then you can't afford it. He went through his life without having a credit card. He disapproved of credit cards very strongly and used to get annoyed on occasions when he was asked to pay by one. I think this was before the days of debit cards. He was a cash and Cheque man. I have always tried to follow his example and save for things I wanted although while I have now also paid off my mortgage I will confess to having a credit card although in my favour I always pay the balance off at the end of the month to avoid paying them interest and having a credit card is really a matter of Convenience rather than a case of me going out and buying things on credit. In other words if I do pay on a credit card I've still got the money and i'll use the money to clear the card after a month so I just use it to get a month's free money if you like.
