Wasn't it 2010 when Mark Zuckerberg told us that privacy is dead? A man with a vested interest in encouraging everybody to give as much of their information out as possible... Yes, that was my immediate reaction, along with "oh no it isn't buddy", but since then I have come to realise that he was simply stating fact.

I see someone's edited the wiki page and removed the links to the Times and farm forum. You can still see the links if you click on history. Fear of defamation, or drive-by vandalism? Therein lies just some of the fun in an anybody-can-edit wiki...

You need to be aware that every edit of the wiki will be recorded with date and time against your IP address in the wiki database, and with appropriate court orders that info will allow your ISP to identify you even if they allocate you with a dynamic IP address. The retention will be indefinite if an account is not used. Assuming they operate policies anything close to those of Wikipedia, with which it is quite closely related, the IP addresses of those who edit using an account will be quite rapidly discarded. But not rapidly enough to prevent disclosure in a defamation case, retention times are unlikely to be shorter than several months because that is the abuse handling requirement. Edit at both Wikia and Wikipedia using an account if you care about privacy.

Soon web browsers will come with anonymous IP VPNs as standard. Everyone should be using a VPN. They cost very little. I rather worry that I am placing some trust in the VPN company who might well not be all that trustworthy

ISPs already keep records so it can't be any worse than that.

I really just use(d) vpn for geting iplayer in France etc, I had to do a lot of monkeying about to route my emails and banking etc through my regular isp, not through the vpn company
