It's a difficult one, 'cos everywhere you look there seems to be a crisis bubbling away, no doubt Greece will be back in the headlines soon. In the past cash was king either the US$ or Swiss, but then there is the utter nutter DT looming. I think commodity shares, bar oil 'cos of OPEC, may have the softest landing. I recently purchased some shares in a junior miner called Savannah Resources. Their interims were released yesterday which look promising RNS1, and a continuing piece of positive news concerning a joint venture with Rio Tinto RNS2. It will be interesting to see if the Sunday broadsheets have anything to say, but there was a lot of news released yesterday, however, the share did rise slightly yesterday. This not for those with a heart condition if you get my drift and it could be a bumpy ride. RNS 1RNS 2There is another share I am looking into which could take-off due to Xmas coming up.

In a word no! I deal in shares and with so much potential bad major news in the foreseeable future + markets are also reaching all time highs + I believe we are overdue for a large market correction, there are two sayings that are constantly in my mind at the moment 1 Cash is king 2 A long term investment is a short one gone wrong So I try to make a quick profit on the AIM market, the more volatile the share is the better .......it's all about timing and not being too greedy. A good deal for me is 6-10% net profit in less than 2 hours, I think my record so far is about 5 minutes*. At the close of the day I will make a decision as to whether I feel it is safe to hold overnight, ie the market trend in the US, any major US news due after close of play etc......if a buy is showing <5% net loss I just sell. *If you work out the equiv. apr you will see it can be very lucrative. Whilst I don't consider myself as an investor. I do not believe in shorting as this form of "investing" merely damages companies for personal gain. Okay This is a follow up to above. It is the only share that I am presently holding (long term for me ). which I believe is now going to travel one way, no matter what global news comes out. THIS IS NOT A TIP, or prompt to buy unless of course you come to same conclusion as me. But, I thought you may be interested in the progress over the coming weeks ie 1 to watch. This share I have followed for many years and have completed many trades with a 80%-90% success rate. Most losses I make are made because of unexpected share dilutions or finds being abandoned due to being uneconomic to get out the ground. This discovery is well past the latter possibility. The company is Solgold plc, and they released some really good news today. The news is here linkThe company name suggests gold, but this is in fact a major copper find. The sp is currently up 20% today, and because BHP Billiton have made a proposal, it is rumoured Rio Tinto or other major may also make an offer, hence my optimism. I say no more.

I was a bit disappointed that the sp didn't move up further yesterday. The fact that it was more confirmational than actual "new" news may be the reason, but it is still a good "catch" for a junior miner. A larger rise may occur after the scoping study is completed.
However, the volume of shares traded was 7.02 million the average being 2.39 million. Some investors go by the old adage "buy on rumour, sell on news" and the buys versus sells numbers seem to confirm that esspecially during the 1st hour of trading. I decided to hold at close purely because the volume traded suggests the market is interested and sometimes a gradual rise can go on for several days before flattening off. When shares spike very rapidly it is easy to miss the boat and other times impossible to trade, as you simply can't get a quote. However if you are watching a live (not a 15 minute delay screen) share price rising very quickly the trick is to catch it just before it peaks, assuming you want to sell, because you should be able to get a quote while the movement is not in your favour. Once it peaks and is on the way back down.... no chance until it stops!! When the opposite occurs and sp dives for no apparent reason it is usually the market makers trying to panic people into selling as they have a large instution order to fill. Possibility of buying will be similar to that of selling on the upward spike ie. try to get a quote on the way down just before it bottoms.

Ah the other one!! Solgold plc that one could be a goodie 'cos I think rival bids might be coming over the next week or so. I think I read somewhere the Chinese could be interested because of there vast electronics industry. Actually I bought that holding at the beginning of September @8.5p and sold just under 50% a couple weeks later @18p so my current holding is FREE!!! . Next top slice due at just under 31p

20% in a day... any suggestions on the lottery numbers for your next trick? (I dont have any of this stock) The lottery........save wearing your shoes out.......take stake find nearest drain and drop money........personally never done it, never will............my only advice would be reduce the odds by saving your weekly stake for say 1 year and then have a BIG bet. Alternatively get a pin open newspaper to the racing page. close eyes and select horses from seven races do accumulator.......more chance of winning some big money, with the added excitement of watching your nags win!!! and it takes longer than 30secs to lose.

This is what softened the rise, a basic dilution of shares, but miners have high cash burn and until stuff comes out the ground they get it by issueing new shares. Me old peepers missed the original announcement . RNS4Edit 10:00 After a slow start because on one hand you have good news and on other bad, there was no panic sell, all trades up to now have been buys. Then, a sneaky delayed trade made to look a sell. they can' t lie about the time stamp tho'. Trade was at 9am for 200k shares @ 4.1251p when sp was 4.00p/4.25p which would show blue then ie buy.........10am when trade reported they had opened the spread 4.00/4.50 hence the trade shows red ie sell 2 more chunky buys just went through as I typed this,100k & 191k ish....feeling happier now

There is a rumour on a website shares may be suspended.........not for a bad reason.......but a counter offer, or it could be a t/over (not so good, unless a bidding war begins)

Ok whilst the sp is down today, there will be people who bought back in June at circa 3p sitting on huge paper profits and are cashing some in, so do not despair if you took a punt......I personally think the fat lady hasn't even thought about phoning for a cab to the theatre yet. This is what the FT said about the spurned BHP Billiton offer linkThis came out about an hour ago linkYou only have to go to yahoogle to see this is still very hot.......ouch!

I've moved all of these posts into a dedicated thread for those who might be interested in them. Though Skippy, I'd be mindful that such overt promotion of small cap mining shares isn't misinterpreted.....

Okay the Solgold saga so far....yesterday after a general meeting and vote to accept "by show of hands" a much lower offer made by Newcrest/Maxit, the sp slid back to circa 18p.
So now methinks.......On one hand we have l'l ol' SOLG.LSE sitting on probably the biggest find of Cu/Au of the decade. (They are nowhere near finished drilling the area for samples!!!)......On the other we have BHP Billiton (the biggest mining company in the... pause... pause... pause wooorld) who might be a tad miffed about being rebuffed by this whippersnapper. This may take them a bit longer, they could be buying up small (to them) lumps of shares to build up a warchest for a full on take over. The SP is back up this a.m. 5ish % (after going lower first thing). There could also be other "big boys" watching and waiting.....The longer all this takes the better, another city quote - "it is better to travel than arrive"......during which it will be a bit of a bumpy ride and opportunities to increase holdings by selling on the spikes and buying on the "treeshakes"....or just top slicing and banking some cash. None of this may happen of course and BHP may just look elsewhere........but it has woken up the mining sector which has been in the doldrums for quite some time.
As far as SAV.LSE are concerned, not much news at the moment except 3 or 4 broker buy recommendations with target prices of 70-90p......I don't take much notice of these, my theory being is they issue so many that they think "we must get one right!!!".....I think the Rio Tinto consortium will stop the sp from drifting tho' until more news is released.

After a bit of a stutter yesterday there was a late flurry of buying of SOLG stock in the last 1/4 hour of trading which continued this morning the sp touched 22p a couple times and finished @ 21.375p. +6ish%. There could be some drilling news soon, 'cos I seem remember reading they had improved the road to the site and instead 2 portable drilling rigs, they now have 3 heavier duty ones to step up the mapping campaign.
No more news on SAV and the sp dropped a tad

SOLG finshed the week @ 24.25p after more steady buying on Friday..........there were also 20 or so delayed trades reported after hours, 8 of which were 100k + shares........I expect to see more progress next week and could see my next target reached. SAV on the other hand will probably need some more positive news or rumour to get it moving again.

Ok it's dentist time ie 2.30 and the sp of SOLG after the 1st hour of nonsense has risen in virtually straight line by 11ish%, any sells gobbled up a bit like FFF on SS's SM, this not normal as I would have expected a couple dips due nervous holders taking some profits. I was going to top slice again at 31p, but have decided to change my target to 40p in light of how this is trading. Now over 12%
Edit...... Now 3.30pm and after rising nearly 17% normally I'd expect the price to drop back......day traders taking profits & people selling hoping to increase their stock holding by buying back when the price drops....I do not think they will be able to do the latter, 'cos of the abnormal buying frenzy.
