(I started this in PBL143, but perhaps the more general question can be answered without moderator deletion) What puzzles me is why do the threads about individual loans 'xxx' out details of the loan, but keep the identifier in clear. When I visit Saving Streams own website, I can see the full details of the loan name before I login, so the information is publicly accessible. The same applies to pipeline loans Wouldn't quoting the full name be easier? p2pindependentforum.com/thread/36/forum-rules links to p2pindependentforum.com/thread/35/proposed-forum-rules which says DO NOT post information that allows a borrower to be identified unless either the borrower themselves or the P2x platform have already made that information publicly accessible (e.g. on a website not needing a log in or sign up).
Don't <mod redacted link to SS live loans page> and <mod redacted link to SS pipeline loan page> make the information publicly accessible? Surely this most elementary detective work is exactly what the rule allows John

There's an element of caution, and consistency. Starring everything regardless of what the platform publicly displays means you don't have to remember each platform's policy before posting, minimising slip-ups.
Bear in mind this forum grew out of the independent Funding Circle forum. FC are particularly cagey about displaying borrower info without being logged in, and were very anti the forum, so a air of caution was needed to avoid giving them any ammunition against the forum. The fact that they did eventually manage to close it down (although by buying it out rather than legal issues) suggests this cautious approach was valid to some degree.

p2p2p, the forum-wide rule against the identification of borrowers, either directly or by revealing their secured assets, applies across all boards. SS remains out of step with most other P2P/P2B platforms in sharing the assets their loans are secured against with unregistered visitors to their website, a policy they might decide to reverse at any point. Either way, we apply the same confidentiality standard on the SS board as we do elsewhere. Loan number plus a well redacted version of the loan name works well enough. {ps. Assuming cooling_dude doesn't mind, I will replace a few of the asterisks in the PBL143 thread title to reduce confusion. I think the original "high security" redaction was to make a humorous point}

I would comment in detail..... but I happen to be up for an award ATM.... So.... > The MODs are great > The rules are brilliant > The systematic problem is with MSE members coming over here with their free thinking & stuff > We should implement extreme vetting to MSE members > And build a big wall C_D for president

DFL0CD1 - Cooling_Dude's big Wall: Our borrower is an experienced property developer who wants to build a large wall to keep out undesirables. Once built, he will seek longer term financing, or just let people in for a fee to repay our loan (eventually).

It's also woefully devoid of details, what's the LTV, the GDV, the loan size, the duration, and most importantly the % return to lenders? In addition last I heard the borrower was not a property developer at all, so I think they're very cold on that one. But, after careful consideration....... I'm in

...additionally, prior to logging onto SS this morning I noticed that identifiable assets are also visible on the SS home page, so presumably the link will need to be redacted in P2x Boards listing? Or maybe these truly are public domain and somehow the other ones weren't? This one's been asked and answered quite a few times. The mods cannot be expected to keep up with which platforms do and do not provide public access to borrower ID, nor can they be expected to retrospectively anonymise mentions if a platform changes their policy. So the board policy is simple. No ID. (IANAM)

@new2p2p, as adrianc says, this one has been asked and answered on many previous occasions. We apply the same "Please do not identify borrowers" rule across all boards, regardless of the platform's current policy on identifying borrowers to non-registered visitors to their website (which they are free to change). The caveat mentioned in the long-standing forum rules post you linked to ("unless either the borrower themselves or the P2x platform have already made that information publicly accessible") envisaged occasions where borrowers and/or the platform discussed the loan openly in marketing communications, for example. It should probably be removed as it causes more questions than it solves. There is no issue with linking to a platform's home page on the forum. What they choose to display there is their own business.

Incidentally, tagging "Admin" will rarely get a rapid answer since such tags will only be noticed when one of the senior Mods with Administrator status next logs in using the Admin ID rather than their own. Best way to raise a question with the Mod team is to "Report" the post and ask your question there. That way, the Mod team will see the report immediately and can easily discuss it and respond as appropriate.

Thank you. You're not wrong there! The Forum rules are currently under review, and that's top of the list for amendment. However, you need to bear in mind that we have different circumstances but are all volunteers here, we also work on a consensus basis and so things don't always happen instantly. As SteveT and adrianc have both said this issue has been raised on innumerable occasions including here on the SS board. What Platforms do or don't do is their business, we are concerned with protecting the Forum and it's voluntary staff and it's what is posted here that concerns us.
