I think the current recaptchas is fine bar the occasional disappearing/replacement picture ones. It does the job of stopping most bots/automation and generally only takes 2-5 secs to complete. It could be a lot worse - imagine if a distorted word/text captchas was used......

I just got a new one - hamsters.
Not had that before. Makes a welcome change from the street sign ones where I never know if the pole it's on counts or not, or the store front ones where some of the shops are so small it's hard to tell they are shops.
One of the animals I got looked like a squirrel on closer examination so I didn't tick it. Another I thought was a guinea pig's face and not a hamster so I left that out but it was wrong. The guinea pig face turned out to be a hamster so I had 3 hamsters.

I suspect many sites will be suffering a marked decrease in their speed then as their power units have all acquired modelling contracts for a megacorp
