In my Lending Works wallet it says:
"Please note: your bank transfers are identified by your unique reference. To avoid errors and get your money lent out quickly, we recommend copying and pasting it. Your money is then credited to your account within one working day."
I transferred money yesterday and over one working day later it hasn't appeared in my account. I definitely used the correct reference.
Is this normal?

Hi @yescautious
Doesn't sound normal. Sometimes there can be a one day delay on faster payments for the payment reference to come through in the bank statement (for the first day it shows just the account holder's name). If it hasn't cleared in your LW account by Monday morning please do call customer services and they will sort it out for you.
Have a good weekend.

Thanks for the quick reply Matthew, much appreciated. It's come through now. Perhaps it was the reference issue as you mentioned.

Hi Matthew I've just signed up and deposited funds by debit card early this am. I had appreciated that I would probably have to wait for my funds to be fully lent, but I was surprised to see that I couldn't even start the process until at least tomorrow because (to paraphrase) LW need to have the funds fully cleared. I can currently pay in by debit card with Funding Circle, Ablrate, Ratesetter, Lending Crowd and probably more if I put my mind to it, and with all of those the funds are instantly available for lending. I can also buy train tickets and use them on the same day, and obtain a wide range of goods and services without retailers waiting a day for funds to clear. What exactly is it that makes Lending Works different to everyone else in this regard?

What exactly is it that makes Lending Works different to everyone else in this regard? Hi r00lish67During the FCA authorisation process, we had the FCA's specialist CASS (client money) team on site for a few days, reviewing every aspect of how we receive, manage and reconcile client money. In relation to debit card lender credits specifically, they mandated that funds must be cleared before allowing the client to use those funds. Otherwise, you could be allowing one client to trade with another client's funds (for example if the lender withdraws funds before they've actually been credited to the client account). It typically takes around one working day for merchant acquirers to transfer funds to merchants (or platforms in this case) in relation to debit card payments, hence there is an unavoidable lag. This can be bypassed if the firm chooses to use its own funds to 'pre-fund' the client account until the funds clear, but in any case this pre-funding would need to take place before allowing the client to do anything with such funds. I cannot comment on what other platforms are doing or whether or not this has been specifically approved by the FCA as compliant (noting full authorisation does not mean the FCA has reviewed and approved every key policy/process as compliant). In the case of rail ticket providers, they would not be subject to the FCA's CASS rules and therefore their obligations would not be directly comparable. Acknowledged that this means the customer experience is not optimal, but hopefully at least you understand why we've taken this approach.

Thanks for taking the time to write up a thorough response and for recognising that it's not an ideal situation, Matthew , that is appreciated. If I were in your (LW's) boots I'd be pestering the FCA to either relax their criteria in this regard or alternatively enforce other platforms to do the same (not that I personally wish to see that at all!) as it seems a bit of a shame and a disconnect. Anyway, I'll crawl back into my corner now

I opened an account with LW last Friday and made a small deposit via bank transfer around midday Friday. Double checked the reference was correctly set up. My bank confirmed the funds had been received.
I'm a bit surprised to see the funds still haven't appeared in my LW account yet. I have accounts on several other platforms and they all process faster payments deposits either on the same day or first thing the following morning. Is it normal for it to take this long on LW? I thought I would ask on here before I pester LW customer services.

Hi savernakeIt can take slightly longer - the full reference sometimes doesn't come through until the following day in our banking system. In any case, this should be credited later this morning. Apologies for any inconvenience. The guys in customer service will be pleased though...

Nice to see your 5 year rate now at a healthy 6% I hope it will remain at this level (or higher) for a good while!

I knew that transferring a cash isa into Lending Works IFISA would take a lot longer than the usual debit card transfer. However, I was surprised that it took 6-7 weeks. I've now noticed the small print of the original Nationwide ISA - '..we will transfer the money within the time stipulated by you or within 30 days of us receiving the request from your new ISA manager, whichever is the longer period'. 30 days seems excessive and only applies to transferring into IFISAs. It seems Lending Works were not at all tardy. Plus, they kept me informed of the process and the matching to loans once the money was cleared was quick.

The banks generally seem to be feeling very unhelpful towards transfers to IFISAs, mostly it seems insisting on sending cheques which the take longer to clear also. I split a cash ISA into 4, and although there was some variation in how long the cash took to arrive in my IFISAs they were similarly long. When I later decided against one of these and transferred that money over (to LW and another) the transfers were noticeably quicker - in fact the last time the cash was in my LW ISA a week after I posted the form.

Seems to be a bit slow as well going the other way. Supposed to be one working day for a withdrawal from Classic Wallet back to bank but three weeks days later it is still shown as pending.

Hi notascoobyThat sounds strange - is it 3 weekdays or 3 weeks? I'd imagine it could only be related to one of the bank account checks failing and the team couldn't get hold of you to resolve. It's best to give them a call (020 7096 8512) and they should be able to sort that out for you. Thanks
