The board title suggests simply "L" as a standard abbreviation for Lendy

Jargon and abbreviations are a very useful tool to exclude outsiders. If we are to keep this forum accessible to newbies then it'd be good to exercise restraint and avoid what is little more than learned text-speak so I wince at posts that trip you up with abbreviations every few words. House style for all newspapers is to spell it out first time and then abbreviate (if you must) thereafter but as the OP says, why bother to abbreviate Lendy, SS made sense buy Ly doesn't. Jack P

LtPP which I've seen is actually more annoying to type than Lendy which somewhat defeats the purpose...

There are times when abbreviations are useful but I do think they are overused here. There seems to be a competitive element creeping into some posts to see who can use the most to replace everyday language. I think I know most of them but I still find myself hesitating when reading some posts to reassure myself I have the right interpretation. I've had to refer to Google once this morning already.
SS was useful for Saving Stream but LtPP or LfSS for Lendy is much more cumbersome to write and unnecessary............JMHO

Liz perhaps you'd care to elaborate? My feeble mind is struggling to make the logical jump from acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/LTPP (or anything else I can piece together LTPP to mean) to any sort of bantz. And even if I could, it kind of goes to the above posts re snooty in jokes etc.

Good posting by one and all. I am a great fan of the plain English campaign and I hereby pledge to always type Lendy in full, from now on. I would suggest that one reason why people have been looking to shorten the name Lendy or find a suitable acronym at least is because when typed in full it sounds a bit silly. In my opinion Lendy is a childish, unprofessional sounding name that you would not expect to be used by a big, serious financial concern. I am sure there will be people who will be thinking about Wonga and saying I am wrong but I would suggest they are targeting a completely different audience of customers and the type of customer who would appreciate that sort of language.

Lots of P2P have silly (Lendy, MoneyThing, Assetz) or inaccessible (ABLRate) names! I'm no marketing or branding expert but I would have thought they could do much better.

On the subject of language, buzzwords, acronyms etc. some people seem to forget that the purpose of both spoken and written English is to communicate. If even 1% of your audience does not understand what you are on about because you have used an acronym they do not understand then you are not communicating as well as you could be.
I remember wasting many an hour in business meetings at work while some incompetent manager used all of the latest business speak and acronyms that most of us didn't understand, and quite frankly he could have been speaking in Urdu. Still, I'm sure wasting all our time with his regular meetings that stopped us doing any real work so he could use use all that jargon and lingo made him feel important.

Fully agree; all of this jargon and acronyms needs to stop ASAP.

I agree.......language over the past 20 years or so seems to have gone into reverse gear........so, how many generations will it be before we are all just grunting at each other again??

My least fave is LfSS. Very distracting and utterly pointless.
Edit: Hadn't seen LtPP but that's actually worse than LfSS. How about "The Property Platform Formally Known As Saving Stream", or TPPFKASS.
