Bladerunner 2049 is very, very good. Beautifully shot, well acted, clever, lots of references, intricate, ambiguous, and I want to see it again (and probably again). Is it perfect? No. Is it a masterpiece? Not sure yet. But it just might be. No spoilers please .

I don't know if I want to see the new Blade Runner film in case of disappointment. The original film is by far my favourite movie, with the wonderful Vangelis soundtrack link, and that magnificent final scene link

Personally I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. “Awesome” is the word that sprung to mind after watching 2049 (in the original sense of the term!)

Like you the original is one of my favourite films of all time, and the "tears in the rain" scene is possibly my favourite scene in any film, ever. 2049 is a worthy successor. EDIT: Put it another way, if you didn't enjoy the first one you probably won't enjoy this one.

Mine too, I think because your attitude towards Batty is totally changed in a few brief moments of his monologue and demise.

It is claimed that Rutger Hauer improvised much of that speech. I don't know if that's strictly true but I'd like to believe it. The claim is made here for example.

Yes, which only makes it more remarkable. I am fairly sure that I have watched an interview with him, in front of some drama students somewhere, in which he states that a lot of it was improvised, but can't find a link. This gives a little more background info too.

Listen to the Ridley commentary on the Final Cut version. He does indeed credit Rutger with revising the speech but suggests it was done before the take and with his agreement.
