I would consider Funding Circle to be unethical.

No tobacco and no direct arms for me. Which means I run my own portfolio of UK high income shares rather than buying a UK equity fund.

I'm interested to know if what percentage of you would rule out certain investments for ethical reasons? For example; personally I wouldn't touch a fracking firm, even if I thought the financials were a great opportunity. Conversely I like property development as I think the housing shortage is currently a harmful force on society. What sort of things would others rule out? Emotion and investment is not a good mix

My ethics include how staff are treated on business loans, based on employee reviews online. Amongst other things, depending on how much I know.

BTL falls outside of my ethical criteria. It really is a pox on society.

To put it to an extreme. Would you have invested in slavery? In blood diamonds? North Korea? Assuming not then we each choose what lines to draw and where.

Chatted to Terry Smith about this once, his investors come from many cultures with wide definition of ethics. He decided that his fund could not have a moral compass.
NB his holdings include Colgate, inventor of Microbeads!
