Today I visited a website in my browser for a magazine called CCR magazine. At the bottom of the page after 2 minutes of browsing I got a message "by continuing to browse this site you are agreeing to allow us to use your connection to data mine for bit coin. Opt out now"
It was in tiny lettering way off the bottom of my screen in pale blue.
Effectively, as far as I can see, this means that one could continue browsing and that gives the page owners the opportunity to use the users equipment without limits in order to mine bitcoins. This also means the electricity drawn on your router whilst they continue their activities. Bitcoin mining is a power hungry operation. One may find that the internet connection becomes very slow as well.
Please keep your eyes open for more examples of this exploitation of users. It's a shame as the magazine have several articles that are apt for p2p interest groups activities.
For clarity, the link was not given by a platform but the magazine was referenced.

Wow, and they don't need permissions to do this, I'm guessing it's done by a script?

Wow, and they don't need permissions to do this, I'm guessing it's done by a script? Opening the link www.ccrmagazine.com my Kaspersky Internet Security blocks a malicious link in each of the browsers I use: Firefox, IE, Opera. In Opera's Settings-Basic I see there is an option labelled "NoCoin (Cryptocurrency Mining Protection)" that is ticked by default. Shows how important good AV defenses can be.

Shows the need for me to improve security and lick the coin links. Plenty of how tools on the interweb😁 if I can decipher it.

I cannot emphasise enough the need for investors to keep computers updated. Windows updates should be run regularly & latest security updates installed. Good anti virus software is available at a small cost & will block all sorts of malicious malware, adware, trojans, phishing & hacking attempts. P2P & banking transactions can be conducted in Safe Mode making you invisible online.

There are also add ons for chrome, Firefox etc to increase security like forcing the use of https. Ad blockers are controversial but they do stop unsafe ads. I used to use NoScript on Firefox.

I gave them permission to continue to use my Wang with upgraded Pentium 5 processor to mine. It took me ages to remove the burnt on images of the smiley faces off my CRT screen!

Clean that cache, clear that history, block all ads, stick to Linux (unless you know something better)
