Hi Recent changes to B&Q have me wondering if they are in trouble. I think it’s a big mistake to take away pensioners 10% deduction on Wednesday for everything other than gardening I think this will backfire they have not thought it through locally the businesses surrounding B&Q stores have increased business on a Wednesday due to pensioners out visiting B&Q so B&Q may not be the only one to suffer
. Farmfoods made the same mistake a couple of years ago when they withdrew the money off vouchers it was in reinstated quickly as I’m sure sales dropped drastically as a 10% discount was a good incentive to go to the store.
This is one I think the “Bean counters” have gotten wrong buy underestimating the buying power of the Grey Pound and the loyalty that can be easily lost. I think competitors will have more 10% off days to cash in on the thousands of retired folk wanting a nice day out and a bargain.

My guess is that they will have an occasional 10% off everything day in a burst of publicity, much like Wickes and other stores do, which will also give them more control over when and how often they offer an across the board reduction.

Not much of an incentive
Not sure if this is trade only
