Logging in this morning took longer than usual, but whilst waiting, both to Log In and transfer money into my ISA, I noticed that the status line at the bottom left of the screen read "Waiting for Ratesetter.com...." but occasionally switched to "Waiting for Facebook.com" for no more than a second. Now there is absolutely no way I'd ever touch Facebook so why is this happening and more importantly what info is being shared with them? I called to report this but they can't do anything without a screen shot and it's to quick for me to catch.
Anybody else noticed this?

I'm not on ratesetter but I imagine that their site is checking if there is a FB cookie on your computer so that they can serve you ads from ratesetter next time you visit facebook.

If you use firefox on a pc you can turn on developer tools, and look at exactly which webpages are called ( network option, iirc?), and even what is sent, received, and how long it takes. I no longer use RS so I decline to poke it for you.
IE has similar functionality, again in a pc.

Sometime extensions if they are in the browser and turned on, could also be flagging a facebook connection. I have some extensions that I have amended for my own use and some of them carry more than just the useful stuff for a given task. Obviously when I use them and amend them I remove all the stuff I don't want them to plug into my browser. Also it seems that some P2P sites also plug all sorts of crud into their sites - zopa being one of them, that they use for analytics and the like among other things. I checked the ratesetter screens I have as I have my ad blocker turned off on RS and I haven't seen any facebook links so far, that's not a comprehensive pages check though just some of the more obvious ones and not using inspect just onscreen stuff. Also its only the members side. RS does have a facebook page here though, they may be advertising this perhaps on public pages.
