Does anyone here perhaps hail from Gibraltar or is just au fait with the new Schengen arrangements?
I'm curious as to how entry/exit will now work. As I understand it (and apologies if I've misunderstood):
1) Gibraltar is now to join Schengen as per the last minute agreement.
2) Border controls are to be dropped between Spain and Gibraltar as a result, whilst being enforced at the airport as a Schengen external border.
If the above is true, what I don't understand is:
a) Where does that leave the previous right for UK citizens to spend 6 months straight in Gibraltar visa-free? Has that right evaporated to be replaced by 90/180 as per the rest of Schengen? If that is the case I'm surprised the papers haven't had a moan about it (loss of sovereignty etc). If it's not the case, then without the border enforcement between Gib and Spain, isn't it a backdoor for UK citizens to enter Schengen for longer than they would otherwise be able to?
b) I'm assuming that UK citizens have retained their right to be able to become a resident of Gibraltar due to it being a British Overseas Territory. Is Gibraltar therefore now an easier route to have access to all of Schengen full-time if one was to become a resident there?

Physically entering Schengen isn't the same as having a right to be there...

I don't think the permanent agreement draft is in the public domain. It still needs to be agreed and finalised between the EU/UK/Spain/Gibraltar. www.etiasvisa.com/etias-news/etias-gibraltarI did briefly think about it, but I think house prices are expensive in Gibraltar. Am thinking the Greece FIP scheme or even golden visa might be better for us. For now the Spanish are being flexible for the 6 weeks is my understanding..basically letting the old rules continue... My understanding which may not be correct.... : If you had a Gibraltar ID card you can continue to use this to cross the border as you always have. If not, then you use your passport. I expect the permanent agreement will be tied in some way to: 1. The Gibraltar status you hold: www.gibraltar.gov.gi/ecounterservicesplayer/162. What Gibraltar ID card you held at 31st December 2020. There are a few different one depending on your nationality 3. What passport you have. BOTC Gibraltar passport or UK Passport. I very much doubt you can simply enter Gibraltar as a UK Citizen with a UK passport, apply for a new Gibraltar ID card and enter Spain and the rest of Europe for as long as you want as part of the permanent deal. Gibraltar could come up with a Golden Visa where you can fast track citizenship after a few years in return for hard cash as many countries do. I would not be surprised if the right to reside in Gibraltar remains for UK Citizens, but you are still limited to the 90 days in the test in the EU. The FIP Greece visa means you can reside in Greece, but are still limited to the 90 days in 180 in the rest of the EU for example.
