Trying to manage my deceased aunt estate, ot takes the patience of a saint to get through to various organisations to sort things. Out. So far I've spent 2 hrs today and got nowhere. TV licensing... straight forward surely... no. Reporting a death.. tick... sorry we are having technical issues try later. Tried calling... bloody useless 15 mins if music. Lighten up.. call local bike shop to enquire about progress on wheel repair.. brings out then after several more attempts they cut me off. No wonder businesses go bust.., people give up dealing with authorities etc. Happy monday .. rant over.

Oh boy, dealing with deaths is horrid and businesses are very very tricky to manage over it. I've dealt with two of these so far and you just know you are going to have to deal with numpties.
My general advice is, take notes, keep a spreadsheet and be patient.
Bicycle wheels by phone is another matter. Repair guys need you standing over them to get anything done ;-)

Indeed. Tbh some have been helpful and respectful, others a bit matter of fact and just wanted me of the Phone . The tv licensing effort today really annoyed me. Not a major problem as I will now just ignore it, however it's the lack of management focus on what they deliver (or not)to customers that hacks me off.
The bike shop may be busy, however small business owners in particular need to retain local custom as they cant afford big websites etc.
Anyway on a positive note, mail this morning has advised a pension over payment to my aunt of £83 which is being written off.

It's just like dealing with the local council, who've outsourced everything to Capita, who run it on a shoestring. The result is that nobody who works for them gives a flying duck, everybody gets lousy service, and nobody takes any responsibility for it (circular finger pointing). It annoys the out of me.

"Tell us once" works well
When my father died the registrar refused to accept the medical cause of death certificate, as the cause of death was not acceptable, had to go back and get a new one, then make a new appointment to register the death ( the next day ).

It's always worth getting 5-6 certificates they are cheap and you can sort several companies at once

Not had to deal with a death as yet but could you not scan and print new copies ?
I have a high end printer and for black & white documents you cannot tell its been copied....
EDIT: I just googled it....
"If you are dealing with the estate, you may need more death certificates, as you are not allowed to copy the death certificate using a printer or photocopier. In fact, it is illegal to copy a death certificate."

Having done some ordinary power of attorneys a few years ago (slightly different to a lasting PoA) any copies had to be suitably certified (either by the person doing the PoA or a solicitor). The organisations accepting them wanted to see the imprint of the pen on the other side. For other things they might want to be able to check watermarks or embossing to confirm it's an original rather than a copy.

Sadly, I've gone through this twice. 'Certified Copies' are produced on very distinctive, heavily watermarked stock - so without that particular paper, I don't copies wouldn't be viable. That said, most organisations I dealt with by post - where an original 'Certified Copy' had to be sent to them - would return that document as a matter of course. Obviously this back-and-forth adds time to the overall process, so it's still handy to have three or four copies available - would have balked at paying £11 quid, though (my activities were in the £3.50 era). In spite of the illegality I've known staff in bank branches to take simple photocopies for their records and wouldn't be at all surprised if most other organisations did the same...

Certain organisations are really good but many offer a terrible service,
Take care with both Virgin Money and Aviva
Virgin Money lose any certificate you send them in 6 months so you may have to send them multiple copies (they do always send them back they just forget they had them) they also don't how how an ISA transfers to a surviving spouse within a ISA wrapper. Still why should they? It is only one of their core products.
Aviva.... I would be amazed if they did anything right.
I seldom bully companies, Aviva is one of them.
