That movie clip is about a global climate movement. Your local problem relates only peripherally.

When you forked out your (assuming in 2006) exorbitant price for solar panels... im assuming you secured a nice long guarantee? maybe 25yrs.

A parts warranty for the panels themselves is a rather different kettle of fish from any kind of workmanship warranty on the sub-contracted installation... Have to admit, registerme, I think you're being more than a tad optimistic expecting any kind of comeback a decade and a half down the line.

So... Ombudsman Services - Energy found in favour of EDF, supporting them on every point, and discounting everything I had to say. I guess my options are either Citizens Advice Bureau and /or a lawyer / small claims court, or walk away. Disappointing, but I guess if you took them to court they'd simply wave the Ombudsman's decision at the judge and you'd lose that case too? Perhaps time to walk away as you say, and settle for having to cough up for the repair yourself (if it's still needed). Life ain't fair, but at least your stress level will fall a little, if nothing else.

That movie clip is about a global climate movement. Your local problem relates only peripherally. It was a joke. You know me / Greta, EDF / the global political class, solar panels / "climate change", getting jubbed off, wanting to... Eh, nevermind. When you forked out your (assuming in 2006) exorbitant price for solar panels... im assuming you secured a nice long guarantee? maybe 25yrs. Feed in tariffs? Yup. Not breaking my roof? Nope. A parts warranty for the panels themselves is a rather different kettle of fish from any kind of workmanship warranty on the sub-contracted installation... Have to admit, registerme , I think you're being more than a tad optimistic expecting any kind of comeback a decade and a half down the line. You may well be right. But I'm, perhaps naively, surprised at the lack of consumer protection here. It seems that I shelled out £8500 and have no recourse because faulty workmanship resulted in a hole in my roof. * Rare and intermittent problem. * Hard to diagnose. * To do so "properly" would have have been expensive and disruptive vis closing a road, getting a crane, putting scaffolding up etc etc. * And nobody is responsible. It doesn't bode well for greener energy, mass insulation drives, or installing 25 million heat pumps. To be honest, right now I'd warn anybody thinking about this sort of thing off. Which is not where we should be . You may well be right. I'm going to run it past some legal friends of mine (not always an oxymoron) to get their take but yeah, walking away is a reasonably likely outcome .
