A hard long haul for carers. Both my parents had dementia. Fifteen years of caring with no support . Thank you NHS. Not something I can ask of my children.

Had a very good friend who developed Parkinsons and Dementia, in less than 2 years he went froma clever witty guy who could walk miles to having to be shown how to do simple tasks repeatedly, and struggling to walk 100 yards.
I also whilst playing bowls came across an ex colleague, I had a slightly stilted conversation with him but We talked about work colleagues all sorts of stuff, he died a few weeks later and after the funeral I was sat having a drink with some other bowlers, his Wife came over to find me, and hugged me, she told me that for 24 hours she had had big parts of him back. Apparently a simple conversation going back over 20 years of events had at least for a time unlocked memories

A hard long haul for carers. Both my parents had dementia. Fifteen years of caring with no support . Thank you NHS. Not something I can ask of my children. Similar issue when Mum had a stroke and was left unable to stand Social Services wanted to remodel the house and put a ceiling mounted track to enable her to be hoisted from chair into bed. they also said the morning visit to help her get up and dressed would be between 7 and 10 and the evening visit to put her to bed between 5 and 7. This was 15 years or so ago and the "charge" from Social Services was going to be £150 a week. So my dad asked what if she needs the toilet in the night, he was told that's for you and your son to manage. No thought that dad was nearly 80 and slightly built and my brother works. Dad was also told he wouldn't need any training in lifting etc as he'd been a paramedic until he retired so knew how to lift properly I now have a friend in a similar situation He's been told they can't provide any help for him to care for his wife, but should he become incapacitated they will have to move her to a nursing home. I managed to get a pint with him the other week whilst his son looked after his wife for a couple of hours. It's easy for me to see how exhausted he is. It seems that providing a carer to give him a break 2-3 times a week is less economic that allowing him to struggle and eventually his wife will end up in a nursing home. It seems that there is always a short term view of costs with councils

It seems that there is always a short term view of costs with councils Councils are skint, after a decade of budget-cutting from central gov't. About 40% of my county council's expenditure is adult social services. The care system in this country is simply massively broken, and needs rebuilding from Westminster down.

Having worked with local Authorities for many years I saw firsthand the waste :- As an example a Director having his office carpet replaced 3 times in 6 months. Labour got in and replaced all the Blue councillors Office chairs with red ones A building was decided to be too expensive to run so a new building was leased then the old building was used as a furniture store for 7 years. Staff being paid travelling allowances between an old office and the new one despite the new one being closer to home Ground works on a building being completed, then the responsible manager turning up with a new set of plans for the building that rendered it 90% wasted. but I suppose you can get this sort of waste in any organisation I can also remember in the organisation I worked for a restructure that reduced the number of front line support staff. 3 months later 3 extra managers were brought in as the remaining staff couldn't cope, why does anyone think adding more managers make the workers more efficient
I'm not saying that Councils don't need better funding

40% is huge !
Our total Social Services is 27% of the expenditure ( another way of looking at it its 125% of the amount collected from residents ) Education is 33% of the expenditure
Council tax Support is 5.4% of the expenditure or 25% of the amount collected. So in effect 1/4 of properties are paying nothing ( or a larger percentage are paying less han the full amount )

No you have not we can see into the special new garage built for it from here . Not that garage the other one was the the reply , you cant have it it does not go under the door and its too long to fit the old garage. Sorry its parked in there, plugged up to all the maintance kit and i have shut the door on it . Oh **** quick get it out and get the old garage demolished before anybody knows.
