Ye Gods do you mean resurrect the poll tax, which in my opinion was a fair system.

But if you look just a LITTLE bit longer-term... With all this complexity, the anomalies and unfairness inherent, it sounds like the original flat rate across the board was better after all. The anomaly is the relatively short-lived CO2-banding, of course. It couldn't be retro-applied, as there aren't official CO2 figures for cars from before... Other countries apply tax by kerb weight, among other methodologies, which sounds like a superb idea to me...

Ye Gods do you mean resurrect the poll tax, which in my opinion was a fair system. Agreed. Why should people with bigger houses with low occupant numbers pay more? We create smaller amounts of waste, use less resources and prob dont draw on public supports as much.

We do with public ie council houses etc need to encourage people to downsize when they no longer need a big property
For years my parents and we lived in a 3 bed council house, next door was a 4 bed with one elderly lady who used one bedroom as an ironing / sewing room.
We have a house on my street with 6 adults that under council tax pays the same as a couple yet produces far more waste etc

We do with public ie council houses etc need to encourage people to downsize when they no longer need a big property "Bedroom tax" Encourage not punish, bedroom tax only applied to benefits, in terms of reduction of housing benefit. system needs to encourage all whether or not in receipt of benefits to live in appropriately sized property.
