Woke up this morning to hear that Rod Marsh (one of the great wicket keeping batsman of the 70's) had died from the heart attack he suffered a few days ago. This was followed up at lunch time by the news Shane Warne (the man who made leg spin bowling sexy) has died from a heart attack while on holiday in Thailand.
Warne was credited with bowling the ball of the century, which dismissed Mike Gatting by pitching outside leg and turning square to hit off. While a truely amzing ball, the dismissal will forever be remembered for the host of 'one liners' that it generated (mainly because of Gattings rotund stature, and love off food). Two of the best examples being:
- the idea that anyone can turn the ball the width of Gatting is truely amazing, and
- if it had been a pork pie it wouldn't have got past him.
RIP 2 true greats of the game
