yes lets go back, Decent music in the most part people went to the pub and talked not sat watching phone screen Football was 3pm on a Saturday Beer and Chocolate were both better Bacon was tasty, eggs didnt cover half a frying pan The family watched TV together, and ate together, one meal was prepared and everyone ate it and if you met a young lady no worries about herpes, AIDS or chlamydia Ladies didn't put make up on with a trowel, and most British girls were quite pale most of the time, not perma tanned Agree with a lot of that, but beer? Thanks to CAMRA we no longer have Watneys Red Barrel but it was pervasive in the 1970s.
And if they didn't sell Watneys Red Barrel, they could offer you Double Diamond instead. You really had to hunt down the real ale pubs back then, very few and far between. I recently stayed on a campsite in Devon and, to my great surprise and delectation, even they sold draught real ale at their bar!

to add a little more, a lack of respect for School and Teachers, I actually overhead a mother tell her "precious darling" that "If you want to draw in maths you can, I'll be going in tomorrow to tell her she can't tell you what to do" this would be a child 11/12 years old.
This continues in adulthood an acquaintance of mine was threatened with legal action after he sacked a member of staff on an assembly line who refused to keep his phone in a locker and his constant checking his instagram and facebook slowed the line to a crawl "I have a right to use my phone whenever I want and you can't tell me otherwise"

But my favourite for the beer with possibly the least appetising name (and the taste lived up to it) was..............Long Life. Who the hell thought that one up?

I've just started watching the Sweeney on Amazon prime I get the feeling they have tucked it away probably not sure about it. Don't know what they would make of Jack Regan at the Met today and it was probably a million miles away from policing at the time away. Still its a get trip down memory lane the series 10 years ago Life on Mars was inspired by it. Strange thing haven't seen anyone in a parker yet.

What is needed right now is a pragmatic outline by the government of how we get through this supply side inflation period. Of course it is clear that with inflation at 10%, either the gvt should explain very clearly how if belts are tightened for a year, inflation falls back close to zero the following year. But if everyone gets a 10% income rise, inflation next year will be 10% and round we go again.
What we are getting is the worst of both worlds, where some sectors are denied a rise, while pensioners for instance will get 10%. The other sectors are forced one by one to go into battle using whatever power they have, strikes etc, to try to catch up. It's a receipe for industrial action which drags on year after year. I suspect the government half likes this, as it gives them a chance of getting re-elected on a wedge issue. The Labour Party shows the limitations of the two party system, as they seem unable to put together any coherent vision for us, and simply seems unable to speak with one voice daring to say nothing at all.
We're being sadly let down here by a weak system and divisive politics.

I'm not sure that I last noticed it as recently as the 1970s but today I saw a woman picking up fag-ends (not an uncommon sight in my childhood in the 1950s). A sign of the times in which we live?

Interestingly on a similar note I was surprised yesterday to see a discarded cigarette packet in the street. At one time and certainly in the 70's very common now that rare that I noticed it.
