most of my friends take the pee out of my phone because it's over 4 years old. I had the misfortune to run into one of those balaclava-clad knife-armed bike-riding phone thieves last time I was in London, a couple of months ago. I scared him off, but thats another story. Cue my old-man grumpiness - kids these days can't even carry out a proper mugging etc. But my wife suggested I should have just showed him my phone - a decrepit decade-old Nokia that can barely hold a charge these days. Maybe he'd have felt sorry for me and handed over his phone instead An old colleague lives in London, loves his nightlife, but consequently has been a target for mugging so many times that, alongside some well hidden cash, he's taken to carrying a sacrificial wallet with just a few quid and a couple of old expired cards inside. The last time he was held up at knifepoint, the robber was satisfied with the wallet, but also demanded he hand over his phone. A bit of a technophobe, he, too, carries an ancient relic. The mugger walked a few yards away, discussed with his lookout/accomplice/ringleader on the street corner, then walked back to my friend... and handed him back the phone. They'd decided it wasn't worth taking even for 'free'! This ex-colleague is the most laid back (and also the most altruistic) guy I've ever known. He maintains his composure by recognising these muggings are never anything personal, they don't mean you any harm they're just kids wanting some money, and he's come around to treating them simply as a form of taxation for the huge benefit (in his eyes) of living in London.

Of course if London weren't hugely subsidising the rest of the country we could use the regular taxes we collect to sort out crime and the causes of crime, but absent that you are right, this is the extra tax we Londoners pay.

Wembley Stadium, O2 arena, Lords, Twickenham, and of course you are home to British London Airways.

You may not have heard of this concept
Since the UK only really does Pharma, a bit of Oil and financial services they have kind of damaged the rest of our areas.

Before P2P, savers put a guinea in a piggy bank, now they smash the banks to become guinea pigs.

I was driving near Wigan the other day and was behind a white van. On the rear there was a sign which said "there are no pies left in this van overnight". Gave me a smile

Sold a camera lens at lunchtime,
payment received with a message from buyer, "I know I paid for second class, but need it urgently, please send guaranteed delivery"
My response "that will cost me another £5-6, are you prepared to cover the costs"
"no but it's urgent"
"Ok, But even if I get it in the post tomorrow nextday delivery, Wednesday which is a royal mail strike day, as is Thursday, so You won't get it until Friday atthe earliest"
"look mate I need this urgently, just get it in the post so it arrives tomorrow"
I've spoken to eBay they've looked at the conversation, and agreed I can cancel

[says the man trying to get rid of some bike parts that hasn't been able to get rid of them on some bike specific FB sites]

In my case yes, for a few hours a week I make between £3,000 and £4,000 a year.
my biggest issue is I love cameras and lenses, so I end up upgrading my kit all the time,

Somehow, I didn’t know I sold an item until a case has been opened. TBH, the item wasn’t available months ago and I forgot to cancel the listing many months ago. All the mails from ebay didn’t show up in the focused folder until the buyer opened a case.
Interestingly, the buyer wants the item. Not sure if the buyer is actually listing her service by buying random items from strangers.

Did they pay? In which case refund. If they didn't pay what are they complaining about?

Ah that's another new idea from eBay that customer pays on receipt, fortunately not operative in the UK yet, and to be honest if it comes in that's when I wind up trading on eBay. I have had people in the past ask for an item to be send before payment , i always refuse

This is my latest view regarding the auction site:-
When the buyer pays, the platform holds the fee. There is no incentive for them to step in for this small fee. The buyer has to wait while the platform holds the fee for “a while” regardless of the outcome.
When the buyer initiates a case, the platform has no incentive to speed up resolution.
Worse, when the platform makes a mistake processing payment, it pretends its not their fault.
