Not this forum I got myself in trouble elsewhere and want to delete all my posts and user. Can I insist they do it? I have a feeling I can't but would be interested to know before I try....

I don't think you can...depends on individual forum t&c. Best thing is to delete as much as you can whilst you still have access and if edit rights aren't time limited. I've been in similar position myself btw...also not here. Yet 😂
If you can't do full delete then adding a "goodbye" note on your signature is also worth considering so it appears under all your posts.

One Forum I belong to we had a poster who went manic he didn't like being challenged on anything, He'd self installed Solar Panels etc and had no competent person to check what looked dodgy to me as a non expert. He got slated over his attitude to safety etc and the Electricity companies who he accused of stealing his electricity because without the appropriate certificates they wouldn't pay him for export.
He gradually got more and more aggressive until he demanded the mods remove him, which they did and all his posts ( which left some threads looking distinctly odd )

On a forum like this you are posting anonymously anyway. Unless you want to be a complete ***** and ensure your username is a traceable version of you full name.
On proboards forums, if you remove your membership/delete yourself you can remove all your posts (they will go with you). There have been instances of that. Its a systems thing and not under the control of board admin. Of course you will still have a plethora of posts on the board where you have been quoted.
One knew that when one posted, and unreasonable to expect that board admin would or was even able to do anything about it. I think one would find that the 'right to be forgotten' (or whatever that law/rule was called) allows for retention of posts in that situation.
What I think you do have a right to is that your personal data - which is not available to the forum members generally - i.e. in the case of here your email address being the most important is deleted/removed permanently at your request. Deleting your profile/membership will do that I'm fairly certain.

I read somewhere a service requires a scan of the passport before deleting your data 🤣
Some service claims they will delete your data on your behalf if you submit your full legal name.
