I'm still in P2P but find nothing to be gained by discussion as I no longer add to my holdings, that doesn't mean I don't read information about how the closure of accounts is going.
That people continue to add to their holdings is beyond me, but many other things are too.

I'm not sure I see the benefit/logic to hiding it to those not logged in.
For those who are members and are logged in, I don't see the issue with the chat. By definition it can only be an issue of any form if your 'point of entry' / navigation is through Recent Posts. But if that is a problem, then instead go via Recent Threads: that lists threads in order of latest updates. At which point you can simply skip past the one or two threads (at point of writing two, one of which is this thread) in chat that have been updated more recently than P2P related stuff. Its also a faster way of navigating to discussions you might be interested anyway even in the absence of Chat posts.
Recently updated threads is the way a number of forums present their pages anyway.
Perhaps I'm missing something.

Given that I seem to be the catalyst for the poll, I will just clarify a few points before leaving it alone. Given that this is a field I have not chosen to die on,
At no point was I suggesting the chat area should be closed, indeed I was suggesting those not wishing to see it being the ones 'branded' (always worth reading an original post)
To me there is a perfect logic to reading the forum by the recent post route as it allows the widest range of topics to be seen (yes I get the irony in that in this context, but it is a finance based forum by design). Given I am as interested in the new and emerging as 'the stuck in and looking for a way out'.
I have a lot of respect for the forum administrators and moderators who as we all know are unpaid volunteers, and have no desire to add to their workload. They were the only ones who would have been disadvantaged by my suggestion and I have no problem with them deciding it was not viable.
I have utilised the available block posts by this poster option to make the forum more usable (if somewhat disjointed) for myself. I have no idea why but it always feels wrong to do it, so still see some of the conversations.
For me none of the options in the Poll 'comfortably' address the problem (the one a lot of you don't see). and whilst currently I have selected close chat know in my heart it is not what I would wish to happen.

Someone recently was saying and it wasn't Badly Drawn Stickman. that they were fed up of dozens of posts in chat and nothing in the areas actually concerned with P2P, and they wanted a mechanism to just see the P2Pnot the rest personally, I feel anyone adding to P2P holdings is either deluded or has an insight most of us don't.

I agree that the deluge of chit-chat section posts get in the way of the P2P posts. When one studies the Recent Posts or Threads, the ones about politics, Covid, Brexit and other such idle jibber-jabber are always the top ones and it wastes time to find the P2P ones.
As this is the 'P2P Independent Forum', I would vote in favour of the P2P posts taking priority. To that end the chat section should respectfully be removed or a means found to readily enable them to be filtered out from the list of recent posts and threads.
Thanks.

There is the General P2P board further down to talk about P2P. The Chat board is to discuss anything, as it suggests!

The Chat board does what it says on the tin, you can talk about anything. If people don't like it, don't read it, concentrate on the P2P stuff and ignore everything else. What's the problem?

I think the problem in some people's perception is that when they look at the "recent posts" or "recent threads" links, those show posts in ALL sections of the forum. And, recently, chat has been the most active part of the forum. Now, that's probably because most of us are hanging around here in the vain hope of news of moribund administrations releasing some tiny fraction of our funds, and not actively investing any more, but... I've personally never used those links, simply because I've only ever bothered with the general P2P forum, and the specific ones for the platforms I've been involved with, rather than the many I've gone nowhere near. Ergo, for me, that's not been an issue.

And, recently, chat has been the most active part of the forum. Ditto, I have never used those links...because there was far too many *P2P* posts I wasn't interested in. So please can we remove all the posts from all the forums that I don't care about?
I just don't use the forum like that - I don't want to read *everything* - I just read and hence keep up-to-date with the forums that I am interested in...I do that view the "New" icons.
That said, whilst "recent posts" looks a bit useless for me, "recent threads" seems like a pretty easy way to see what's cooking...

That said, whilst "recent posts" looks a bit useless for me, "recent threads" seems like a pretty easy way to see what's cooking... Page 1 of "recently updated threads" has 30 threads. Nine of those are chat. Those 30 threads cover four days use of the forum. Three of those chat threads arise from complaints about the volume of posts in the chat forum...

Like a few others i am no longer active in P2P just following a few platforms for views & updates at random times but also look at the general board when on the site. Can see why many would like to keep the site true to its roots but wonder if a compromise could be found using the home page of MSE and a small switch in layout (but that's assuming its not to much hassle for the mods) MSE has many sub boards and the forum landing page shows all of these, but Using the MSE method on their savings and investment forum page as a comparison to this site they have 3 main options On the page. There are 3 options of "My favourites" but only when logged in which might work on here to filter boards, plus "other boards" which opens up the other boards for visitors if required plus "latest posts" also open to all thus keeping the page clear of other boards. Also to keep this forum more P2P focused on the home page why not move the General section below all the p2P sections and merge with the equities section already at the bottom of the page plus add the savings rate thread as well with its own board

If chat goes, please retain the thread p2pindependentforum.com/thread/3859/sgt-pers-lonely-heart-club which is a historical document of great value, to FC lenders at least. Some of us have been reincarnated a few times since 2015. P2P was still young and exciting then. You could make 10% a year in the good old days. Great big returns, tiny little losses. Now it's tiny little returns, great big losses.
