From time to time I buy things from Amazon, and am constantly frustrated by their inability to deliver on the agreed date. My latest purchase was made on Monday for delivery on Friday. According to Amazon the parcel is in the Evri depot in Bridgewater, whereas in reality it is sat on my livingroom table.
Is it the case that paying for early delivery is just a way to try and get money from you, and in reality whatever delivery option you chose it will arrive on the same day?

There used to be options, allowing customers to save money for items not needed urgently.
However, I have experienced a few delays for their prime service.
The closest thing to agreed date is probably having the item delivered to a Amazon hub collection counter.

So the issue is that you've received the delivery early, thanks to courier muppetry? Amazon are far from the only supplier to use them. Our local Evri/Hermes guy is decent, so we've not had the issues many have.

If they had delivered yesterday or tomorrow I would have been out (and then you get into the issue of tick the box to confirm that you accept responsibility for any damage if they leave it in your garden shed).

I pay 60 or 70 quid per year for prime. I do it mostly for the next day delivery. I've been very impressed at how reliable it is. It is usually delivered by their own service and not Evri/dpd/etc .

See bbc news re evri. Fairly predictable couriers companies will struggle with extra volume when RM are on strike.

If they had delivered yesterday or tomorrow I would have been out Been there -- not just Evri/Hermes but with Amazon's own logistics/drivers. What I think happens, in my case, is I order something on "Super Cheapskate Whenever" delivery. They schedule it and provide tracking details, e.g. "Due Thursday", then Wed. a.m. "Arriving Tomorrow" and it will turn up on Wed, unexpectedly fast. I've had stuff arrive on Sundays even like this. It seems that my delivery accelerates forward a day or two if Amazon/Prime are delivering to one of two neighbours -- I seem to piggyback onto that, and often see the driver come here directly from one of those properties before heading off. I'm assuming they are bundling me in to save making a separate "Cattle Class" delivery the following day just for my item -- that's part of the point of the whole "logistics" thing, minimize the running around
