The 5 cold days we just had cost me nearly £50 in heating.
£10 a day, last years highest was £2.75, the year before £2.20.
bear in mind also I have the heating running more efficiently by using a lower flow temperature, and rejigged insulation in the loft ( Lol put it back where builder kicked it aside ).
seriously though, I don't think I have my heating high at 18/19 degrees.
I'm running at an average of about 55kWh of gas, this due to changes I've made is 10% lower than previous years. this means my cost for comparison should be increased by 10% so £11 a day compared to previous £2.75.
We are talking a factor of 4.
I personally know pensioners round here who were paying over £125 for gas last year this year it will be £500 ! I know they get the winter fuel and the addition, and the £400 reduction like the rest of us but lets say there are 4 cold months Last year It cost them £500, this year £2,000. an increase of £1,500, take off the £500 winter fuel boost and the £400 government support they still have £600 extra to find over 4 months State Pension is £179.60 a week. Over that 4 months (13 Weeks ) they have to find £600. £600 is 1/4 of their pension income over 13 weeks, anyone who thinks pensioners have £40 a week spare is deluded.
yes I know it affects everyone, but pensioners are generally on a fixed income.

We have relatives staying just now so cant be as frugal as usual. Checked bulb account yesterday averaging about a fiver a day. That's on top of oil and logs.
Worries me that potentially we could be spending 300 a month just to keep warm.
No wonder folk are going to library's to keep warm.

And feel the cold more and typically need to have the ambient temperature higher. over this cold snap our daily gas usage has been running between £10-£13 per day. Yes we have a reasonable size detached house. But rooms that aren't typically used or used very transiently have the rads off.

Weird how a comment brings back memories.
Back in the 70s I can remember my grandfather telling mum who was a nurse that his legs were sore.
She got him to take his trousers off and I was shocked he had huge blisters all down his shins he was feeling the cold and had banked the fire up and pulled his chair nearer, he had 3rd degree burns right down his legs, as I remember it took several months to heal properly

Yeah. Reminds me of my Ukranian brother-in-law who is currently staying with us has cold showers (and I mean cold mains water without any hot added). God knows why - something to do with having resistance to falling into frozen lakes where he goes fishing.

God knows why - something to do with having resistance to falling into frozen lakes where he goes fishing. Cold showers, exposure/immersion in cold water: it's currently 'a thing'. Keep up. [though I'd posit it is difficult to 'keep up' when its cold...] (Wim Hof, the Iceman, being the ultimate exponent of such things).

9.92P compared to 3.76 last year and 2.93 the previous year and 2.84 the one before that So there y'go. 2.63x more expensive. So your £10 day would have been £3.80 last year, £2.95 in 2020, £2.86 in 2019. A £2.75 day last year would have been £7.23 this year.

When I visited Alcatraz back in the day (tourist, not inmate ) the Guide asked us whether the prison provided hot or cold showers. Most answered luke warm to cool/cold and he said " Nope, hot as they liked, and for as long as they liked." The reason being that they wouldn't fare very well swimming in the icy San Francisco Bay if they tried to escape.

My electricity bill:-
April - June: £97.43 June - September: £68.10 September - December: £123.35 taking into account the three payments from the government for a credit of £199, so without those it would have been £322.35. Nearly a fivefold increase.
What the actual ****
