Mustn't jump to conspiracy theories that the problem is similar to the cyber attack that is still affecting parcels and letters sent through Royal Mail's international services.

Well, at least they're being honest.
What gets me are the companies who put up a fancy banner stating their website is currently down "to enable service improvements which will enhance our customer experience".
At 11am, in the middle of peak business hours.
Yeah, right. We believe you... your server hasn't crashed at all...

P2PPTSD. moonraker HMRC website is always volatile at this time of year because so many people need to use it (before end of month deadline). Adds to the frisson of paying your taxes 😉

I suspect that the my problem in accessing HMRC was because I tried to do so via a bookmark. When I brought up the website anew and then logged in, I had no problem, and paid the tax due by January 31. I've just checked my account and the money has been received, together with four "Repayment supplements (interest)" for the same day: £1.74, 0.03p, £1.05 and £1.27. I don't really understand why, they're probably related to my submitting an amended return a couple of months ago, resulting in less tax needed to be paid, though I'm sure that the payment due by the 31st had been amended to reflect this.
