adrianc bed moved, and to be honest it was silent, but my brain still said that something had hit the house, so I had to get up and look. clock fell off the wall. Had a good look round this morning can't see any new cracks I think some people talk rubbish though "I saw the walls ripple" - if your walls rippled you would have huge damage "a blast of cold air ran through the house" "my back door opened, so I grabbed my hair dryer to attack the burglar" "my parrot fell off its perch" of course the Jokes have started. "£1 million of improvements to Merthyr" "the Abertillery etchasketch museum has been wiped out" "my wife said it was the first time in ages she felt the earth move"

I predict an aftershock, a small ripple of PTSD sickness claims slowly growing to seismic proportions in the region.

adrianc how come you didn't feel in when people in Birmingham did There's two possible reasons. 1. I was asleep. 2. They were mistaken and are being melodramatic. (see also: "saw the walls ripple")I'm going for a combo.

So one guy in the village is claiming it broke every window in his house, odd that it did all of his and none of the neighbours and nothing to do with them being old single glazed windows that look like they need replacing.

Entirely possible the frames are so rotten all the panes fell out with the slightest breeze... Still, at least single-glazed will be very cheap and quick for insurance to replace like-for-like...

Was it the same guy whose 55" TV was magically singled out to be picked up and thrown across the room?

don't think so.
talking to a guy i know this morning and he said he was on his way home and the house he was passing moved at least 2 feet over the pavement then jumped back again.
Didn't have the heart to tell him that if a house moved 2 feet off its foundations and back it would destroy all the utilities

Reminds me of a time many years ago when I was sat at the bar of a pub in the afternoon and a woman came in to empty the fruit machines. After she finished she had an orange juice and we began talking. Her opening gambit was to suggest that not many people know that a fruit machine takes the same amount of power as 3 electric fires. When I suggeted that probably wasn't the case she looked a bit put out and asked how I could know such things. Firstly I pointed out that the machine was plugged into a standard 3 pin wall socket, so the most power it could draw was 240v x 13A = 3.12Kw. Secondly, I pointed out that if the machine was consuming the equivalent of 3 electric fires it would be glowing red hot. She made her excuses and left.

but you don't know what size her 'comparative' 3 electric fires were. Perhaps they were 1 kw single bar only fires.

Even at 3 x 1kw heaters (if such things exist) the coins coming out of the machine (on the odd occasion it paid out) would be red hot.
