Try pasting the excel into this: theenemy.dk/table/Select BBCode in that and copy and paste the result into a post with BBCode selected here. BBCode is a pitta! Iirc I have locutus to thank for the converter link, it's been invaluable here!

create an html file from excel. Then look for the section like below. replace all the < with [ and > with ]. Then paste into the BBCode mode and switch to preview mode. Worked for me.
<table cellspacing="0" border="0"> <colgroup span="3" width="107"></colgroup> <tr> <td height="21" align="right" sdval="12" sdnum="2057;">12</td> <td align="right" sdval="22" sdnum="2057;">22</td> <td align="left">dsfsdfs</td> </tr> <tr> <td height="21" align="right" sdval="22" sdnum="2057;">22</td> <td align="right" sdval="22" sdnum="2057;">22</td> <td align="left">dsfdfsff</td> </tr> </table>

Thanks, I'll give it a try. overthehill, I did try your method after our private conversation and had some joy but there were some anomalies whereby once I reached a certain point in the table, the formatting went awry and the table failed to generate from that point onwards. I didn't want to keep pestering you so gave up. I then found this test area and had another go.

You need to make sure none of the lines have extra and hidden cr/lf 's at the end effectively breaking a single line into two at a point not allowed.

There was definitely something not right but as I said at the time, my table was about 6 columns by about 30 rows and the table was only getting to about the 5th box before failing so even if I'd identified the error, manually correcting it would've been a real pita.
