Just tried to take advantage of the 3.6% available on the monthly market, by depositing via debit card.
Filled in details, saw a verified by visa page for a few seconds and was dumped back at the page I was on before asking me for card number etc.
No idea if the first transaction went through or not. Can not risk trying again as if it has and is just taking time to show then I'd be overdrawn.
Surely some sort of error message could be generated rather than dumping you back to the same page?
As it is I've missed the boat now.
Moan over.

Back in the early days of the internet I ordered something online but the computer froze so I ordered it again and ended up with 2. Next time a similar thing happened on paying my credit card and I didn't repeat it and I got bumped with interest and a missed payment penalty. I have often wondered why websites don't tell you in advance as to what will constitute a success if things go wrong. Most purchases will email you nowadays but it would be nice if things were explicit upfront.

I've had this a few times early in the morning and it magically clears itself 7/8am or so. I was cross and moaned at Santander because it kept happening - they said it was an issue in the 'back end' somewhere in between them, verified by visa and ratesetter - as ever they were vague but i got the impression if was the visa/verified by visa end of things rather than Ratesetter's.

Jack P Interesting you mentioned Santander, I've had similar problems making RS deposits more often than not with them, they told me it was a visa issue which I wasn't totally convinced about. Now I use a different bank card ( which also uses visa verify ) and then FP the money from Santander to that bank. Have never had any problems with the other bank. Bit of a pain though.

I have also never been able to get Verified by Visa to work between Santander and Ratesetter. Every time it failed I would ring Santander and they would authorise it manually and assure me it would never happen again. Like Stardust, I now make my Ratesetter debit card payments from another bank account, which works perfectly but it does not use Verified by Visa.

I've used Visa debit from HSBC for all my p2p investments, including Ratesetter, and it's always worked fine.

Apart from one occasion on FC (screen freeze, but was sorted after a phone call to FC) my Santander visa debit has worked without fail for all P2P I use.

I've had one problem, and the symptoms were very similar to those described.
I got in contact with the bank to find out if it was a problem their end - it turned out there wasn't enough in that account...

What we always use to refer to in my IT days as a PEBCAK error Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard Similarly, we always called it a PICNIC error (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer).

Gosh, we only had hexadecimal .. #CIED, or c*ckup in entering data. #FIED if the user has previous form, when it'd be F* idiot entering data. 8>.

I like 'carbon based error' as opposed to silicon based (hardware).
