Newbie Question, How does Pre-Funding work?

If I select a pre-funding amount for all loans say, when do I have to have the funds to cover that and as new loans are added to the pipeline how do I know what funds I need to add, or do I get a request for actual funds when the loan goes live. I can't see anything about pre-funding on the site FAQs or 'How it Works'.
