Having suffered badly numerous times from Microsoft "Updates", one catastrophically bricking my PC, I now use this website as a guideline as to when to install Updates:- www.askwoody.com/ms-defcon-system/

Matheson knew the taxpayer was footing the bill for any data usage racked up by his government-provided device. The principle of opening it up as a hotspot for his family to use was fundamentally wrong on so many counts (not least security), whether in the UK or abroad on holiday. The amount racked up is to some extent immaterial, it's the principle that matters. Taxpayers aren't there to bankroll his family! This was second nature to me throughout my public sector career. It should be second nature to anyone spending taxpayers' money. He clearly can't be trusted to treat public funds responsibly.... an increasingly common theme these days. Problem, of course, is that most of them are at it, from all the parties, they don't give a damn about taxpayers money and just look on it as "perks" And the reason, also of course, that MPs/SMPs rarely go down, is because they threaten to squeal about all the other "perks" and take all the other rats down with them if they swing. So they get "protected." One big cosy club innit, snouts all round, as if we didn't know. It is alleged that for this reason the "Mone Affair" (and many others) has gone quiet and nothing much will happen, because, if alleged threats were made to get the contracts, think of what might be threatened if the very serious prospect of prosecution and prison were to loom - brown trousers (and brown skirts for the ladies) all round in the HoC and the HoL!

The Dream Team? A power sharing coalition of Maggie and The Beast of Bolsover?

Suella Braverman accuses Rishi Sunak of betrayal in scathing resignation letterThere really is nevfer going to be any end to the internal feuding of the Conservatives until they are near wiped out at an election and have to rebuild and shape themselves around a coherent philosophy. How long is it going to take ? A minimum of two GE's ? A generation ? Oh, and of course she doesn't miss any opportunity to dog whistle to the (semi-far) right wing base of course. What a bunch of clowns the Tories have become. Oops: just realised that agent69 's post was to the same thing. To be fair, Labour are a bunch of clowns too. I mean, Rayner/Momentum, really? As I have opined before, NONE of them are fit for office. A whole New Centrist Party might fit the bill, and I don't think that's Reform or anyone else at the moment either. What a very, very sad and hopeless position we are in.

Whilst Tommy, Katie, GB News, The Daily Mail, And Others are arguably odious, vile creatures, and arguably go about what they do the wrong way, I am pleased that neverthe less there are at least some who stand up for this great country and its proud history. Mmm. They certainly have direct lineage back through this country's history. In the case of the Wail, it's unwaveringly consistent. Always interesting to see The Daily Mail denigrated. It just happens to be Britain's widest read newspaper. By FAR, a huge margin. So, of course, everyone who reads it is "wrong", and the handful of Grauniad readers are "right". pressgazette.co.uk/media-audience-and-business-data/media_metrics/most-popular-newspapers-uk-abc-monthly-circulation-figures-2/

Its people like you we need in the House of Lords - not the usual mates of the PM. Yes, the mates of any PM, of any Party, they're ALL at it. Farcical mockery the whole sham.

Yes, it is a Government/Quasi-Government absolute rule to constantly deny any and all complete, utter and total failures. Especially and particularly those failures that are provably complete, utter and total. And then quietly sweep them under the carpet.

Think that, right from the beginning, The Post Office took their lead from the FCA.

Glad to have remaining funds back and to put to better uses. It started off so well. Feels like it's not a question of 'if' but just a case of 'when' ... I'm not bothered, the FCA are on the case. 🤣

There are obviously groups intent on asserting themselves more, challenging & changing our way of life; you can allow it to slowly and inevitably happen, insidiously, or you can stand up and assert yourself in response and say " Sorry Guv, this is Britain, we have a society wherein by living here you agree to do it our way and live by our rules."
Same issues are facing Oz, interesting times.

It's definitely bad in the Mental Health arena - especially in London. We struggle daily trying to understand and also trying to get the contacts we speak to to understand when just trying to get updates on our son who is currently having a bad time - mentally. Sadly many many good people have left the MH area due to burnout and there is a huge struggle to get staff in that domain. Mind you the pay is not that great at the level of staff we speak to. There is a huge issue with the lack of staff in that they are so overloaded due to the lack of staff. "There is a huge issue with the lack of staff ......." I'm not surprised, if my experience still holds true. Back in January 1978, I remember applying for my first job in London at the old "Mental Hospital" in Friern Barnet, it's now been converted to luxury flats. The interview was going swimmingly, I was keen and ready to start, until they said something like " We have to inform you that you might get attacked and hurt on the job, and if so there's no insurance or compensation" or somesuch. Of course it freaked me a bit and I skiddaddled out of there pronto. If the same conditions of employment still apply today I'm gobsmacked that anyone would want to work in the "Mental Health" arena.

administration was extended to 20.12. 24.plenty of time to extract more fees/costs for doing very little.the administrations of p2p platforms has certainly been an eye opener as to the real high risks you are taking when lending to p2p.Yep, and the relatively paltry returns are nowhere near worth these very high levels of numerous risks. Still, the FCA is doing a grand job of "keeping it clean" though eh?

"how the hell can FS lose so much money with "secure" lending?"
Very easily.
If you're an idiot, a criminal, or both.

Various media reports suggest Metro Bank wish to raise £600m (£250m in shares, £350m as debt). Interesting to see if they can accomplish that given their market capitalization appears to be around £65m. Metro bank's whole history consists of stumbling from one crisis to another, invest at your peril. I could even bore you with my personal interactions which left me stupified. Terry Smith (Fundsmith) won't touch Banks, which is good enough for me. He says, and I paraphrase, that even the Banks don't understand how they make all their money.
