Ok sorry I am going on near 70 my experience of dealing with authority has been absolutey that the only interest they have there own self interest. 1 An ex next door neighbour raised a nuisance complaint of the use of our log burner with environmental health. After a 14 month investigation close to court case we proved the complainant was not honest and our witness was just for fun the environmental officer running the case. Even then they were progressing a court case until we played back to them the officers own comments to us in our own front room which she until the play of recording denied . We had put a recorder under the sofa and forgot to mention it, never mind .Only when we told them and they understood the cold hard fact we were going all the way in court did they find in our favour . The simple fact was they had no interest in the facts of the case only in closing it at the minimum possible cost .Our neighbour was on their backs all the time ,expensive , difficult, best throw us under the bus and move on.
2 Ok I made a mistake , I was guilty , I discharged about a cup of diesel into the harbour it's a criminal offense and until I presented the video recordings of the discharge of sewerage from the pontoon toilets on three separate occasions because the pump out of the storage was not frequent enough on busy summer weekends and the over flow alarm was not working and known not to work , I had reported it and kept the emails, for at least 3 years. Suddenly there was no problem , to minor a discharge of diesel to deal with, would you Adam and Eve it. My advice right or wrong is if you get any problems with authority is stand your ground , play the game, make it difficult, expensive and time consuming. It is brutal, but they do not give a **** about right or wrong , it's simple box ticking exercise and the easy cheap self serving way will always come first.

Absolutely , I heard this all the time from right wing rich chip shop owners that market forces should be allowed to rule unchecked , the minimum wage should be scraped and any benefits, rent support is wrong. Until the last couple years when they cannot get staff unless they pay more because the staff cannot earn enough to pay the rent on their accommodation and car fuel costs , most of there staff are on split shifts in rural areas. Now they want more tax payer support for there working workers to support them and in effect subsidise their businesses, the non working members of society can of course swing. Agreed I live in the Welsh Valleys 20 miles or so North of Cardiff. It's a deprived area and few well paid jobs, 2 bed terraced properties run at around £7-800 a month to rent. Min wage £450 a week £1950 a month £180 Tax £75 NI £1700 left Rent and Council Tax at least £800 so 1/2 your income goes jut on keeping a roof over your head. Your lot are lucky rent would be £1200 plus council tax here and these people have no public transport to get to work so running a car is the only normal option if you wish to work. One very busy summer trade local chip shop in a rural cove with just a single track access had to provide accommodation from their holiday homes at the site in the end to get some staff, but had to shut shop. Staff could not stick the no social life location , £50 taxi return to the nearest pub.

So if Ukraine seeded some territory in a peace settlement, the absolute minimum I can see is an assurance from Russia that that was it and no interference or claims on Ukraine in the future. Should Ukraine then not join NATO as part of the deal, Ukraine would have to be turned into and armed camp with a defense industry , economy to support that and fixed defences that would make those constructed by Russia or on the DMZ in Korea look like toy town. Do I think Putin would consider this , no way , I think he wants the whole pie, maybe a slice at a time but nothing less. Best outcome is he slips and falls out a window , I know we could get worse but I do not think it can be much worse. Would Russia be better off after the war , well it would face a larger more cohesive European NATO , with or without the USA , with a heavily armed unfriendly buffer state, Ukraine. It's feared invincible army having not performed well against a outnumbered , probably 6 to 1 force in a 3 day war that it did not completely succeed in winning in 3 years.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-68900203This is an outrageous waste of public money. Why aren't more nurses (and doctors) being trained urgently? Is it because it might take longer than an election cycle to see the results ? In other news, the bankers bonus cap is scrapped. Why do bankers deserve to have their pay driven up by market forces and not nurses? Absolutely , I heard this all the time from right wing rich chip shop owners that market forces should be allowed to rule unchecked , the minimum wage should be scraped and any benefits, rent support is wrong. Until the last couple years when they cannot get staff unless they pay more because the staff cannot earn enough to pay the rent on their accommodation and car fuel costs , most of there staff are on split shifts in rural areas. No, no , I have no evidence apart from info on this forum but spending £3.5 m on upgrading the environmental performance of a building worth £250000 must be a winner over the ferry boat farce. Let's not look at the carbon cost of the upgrade to carbon return period of that used to do the work, taking into account of the life expectancy of the building. God please let the Scottish go free and independant and make the Welsh and English so much better off. Let's please have a English and Welsh referendum to divorce the buggers and run away. Having had a interesting conversation with a Scotts nationalist holiday maker who thought that the scots should use the the pound, because there is no chance they would fulfill the rules to enter the Euro . With a seat on the bank of England with a veto on all UK interest and financial decisions as a joint user. Who thought all the EU would welcome another loss making member who would encourage minority ethnic groups to independence within their borders. That the present financial support grants from the UK to the Scots should continue based on the present financial package for ever in compensation for our theft of Scottish energy resourses. Sorry good by and good riddance if that's it, had enough, build a hard border and move on. Sorry another rant over.

Hope nobody thinks I am a war mongerer, the word in my post is God forbid.I think the present conflict in Ukraine is an appalling failure of politics, an accomodation that would have solved Russia's historical fears of an invasion of it's western border and the lack of sensitivity of expansion east of NATO after promising not to after the fall of the USSR was foolish. Putin is a megalomaniac dictator wishing to return to the glory days of the USSR but the west enabled him to carry the Russian people forward with him. The right in the West ignoring Russia as defeated spent force while encourageing european states into become western political clones in the good old USA way have no political savvy at all. Ukraine's actions in trying to suppress the cultural heritage of it's Russian expat population did not help much ether and sure was not in any way freedom loving. Energy security is not only a matter of physical access but the ability to buffer ones state from the economic effects of world events effecting price. A diverse energy mix under ones own control in as far as that is achievable should be our aim , renewable would be nice to. Present storage solutions to stabilize the grid are short time solutions to last a few minutes while we wind up peaker plants on standtby. We need the sort of storage that could run the country for 2 or 3 days in a row and I see nothing to do that at present.

I agree at one level that the import of fuel from an unstable middle east is the immediate security issue, however if we ,godforbid got in a fisty cuffs with our Russian friends those cables are very vulnerable and lpg transported by sea from the US is also. That spare cheap electric from the EU may not be available for long as transport and heating goes electric in Europe at an increasing rate gobling up capacity. I know people do not like it but solar ,on shore wind and that magic large scale economic storage I think is the long term answer if the tecnical storage issue is solved. Nuclear energy will play a part but it's not really renewable and it is expensive.

Last year there was much trumpeting of the UK becoming a clean green electricity net exporter, a new green Saudi Arabia of the west. Well I watch a site called gridwatch, I recommend and since the repair of the French nuclear fleet we are anything but. This morning I recon 20% of our electricity is being imported and figures of that order are not rare. Ok it's cheap and there must be a power glut in europe, but energy security , um, not when it's coming over in submarine cables. The government answer is new gas fired plant, but that does not aline well with our climate promises and anyway it does not solve the security issues, gas has to be imported. Not sure I have any easy answers, the need for large scale energy storage at an economic cost becomes more and more the answer to all our present issues but I don't see a great white hope technical solution out there. Anybody seen any bright new game changing solutions.

QI informs me the chances of an American president dieing in office is a 8 in 44, mutch higher than a lumber jack, considered a very dangerous job. If the orange man wins there is more hope yet than I dared to dream. edit if the competition wins it's got to be near a racing cert.

SNP fortunes continue to go down hill following the collapse of their power sharing agreement with the Greens.
At least the SNPs fortunes cant get much worse Now it will be difficult to go further down hill but I have always had great faith in the ability of the snp to exceed my expectations.

So I am getting a bit anti loan extensions. The loans know when the term ends , they know they are not going to have finished their project or need a new loan and they must know AC retail is not in the business of new loans. So why have they not got on with it and arranged a new loan in good time, ok in the present market it's likely a new loan later down the road maybe at a lower interest rate than available now and twiddling thumbs for a bit may seem good business practice . However why is the AC instructional side not picking these up, or are the the loans such rubbish they will not touch them with a barge pole. About a month ago I expected about 15 of my loans would come to term , two have payed up, it's not good enough. One of the loans cannot remember which, had a loan offer but walked away to start a search for a new lender, what!! Sorry rant over.

So the fos route now seems closed and fos do not think an unfair terms case can be upheld in a court of law. I am not involved in the legal route, to be honest had no belief in it,the legal company involved or it being the best action to obtain the largest return of funds for the majority of lenders. However people have the right to pursue there own interests in their own way, I respect that. Now we will see how serious the solicitors are in their confidence of a no win no fee action without the support of fos and fos reading of the legal position.

It would not surprise me if all the assets, building , furniture, IT, cups and saucers went to the institutional side and now are being rented back for use by the retail side. £5 for boiling kettle, £1 a week per cup , ect ect. Soon adds up, office space , toilet use fees, all sorts of opportunities.

So the lady postmistress prosecuted while pregnant has an apologie today for, quote, the way it was perceived. Not for getting her imprisoned wrongly so as to protect the post office reputation, no , the way it is perceived and damages the post office reputation. Have they learnt anything at all, have they have no shame, no dignity, no ability to take any responsibility. My opinion has now changed I want those responsible in custody.
