What with the mathematics required, steady tactical nous, the need for an eye on the exit plan, and even a steady hand (for FFF situations). ....surely there are some snooker fans here?

Snooker was great in the old days, when we could watch the hurricane bashing referees's, Kirk Stevens sniffing dubious products, big bill werbeniuk supping 24 pints before and during a frame and Tony Knowles bragging about his sexual escapades........ today? Fergal o'brian and Peter ebdon..... zzzzzzz

My mother used to hustle snooker in a hotel on the south coast for a living before the war and made me watch it with her on the TV, it left me with a complete lack of interest in all ball games.

I'd expect nothing less than that high calibre of anecdote from you @bobo , how bizarre, and thank you. I would try to defend the thrilling nature of today's snooker personalities, but I'm not sure Barry Hawkins is a match for the old set. Ronnie can still cause a drama off the table of course. Still, it's fantastic television to doze off to by the fire isn't it? And no matter how long you doze, it'll still be on when you wake up..

It's quite often on Eurosport in France. I've never seen a snooker table here. Mind you they have had cricket occasionally, Nasser Hussain commentating in not bad French

Looking back to the 70's, my dad used to play for the local working mens club, when they played, once a week, home and away, we all used to go with him to watch the match's , there were sandwiches, pork pie, sausage rolls and pints everywhere, and all eaten and drank in deathly silence. Me and a mate still go to a local snooker club and play today.... best break of 46 is now over a year old.

I enjoy the hushed atmosphere on the TV, but I don't think I could stand the tension of trying to keep this quiet whilst watching it live, plus it's the type of thing I like to drift in and out of in an afternoon - if I had to actually try and focus on it all the time, especially with a beer and sausage roll in hand, I'd be fast asleep within an hour I think.

A buyer worked for me for 4 years and he never took any holiday except to go to the Crucible each year, lived alone, never spoke to his colleagues and, in the 4th year, died while on his special holiday to Sheffield.

Well, with some platforms, you make a bet that the black is lined up on the pocket while, in reality, the white is stuck behind a red. Sort of like a loan in a town on the Irish Sea.

Of course, it makes perfect sense to the aficionado if the green is on it's original spot.

I must admit I enjoy watching snooker. I have been watching the Scottish Open on Quest today. I miss some of the golden oldies but Ronnie O' Sullivan makes up for that.

I used to wonder what I might do in my retirement - well, now I know. I'll still be watching Mark Selby vs Matthew Stevens in this 2019 UK championship match.
