I'm sorry if I'm missing something about how the SM works but where is your profit if you do not hold for the interest? Most of the loans for sale are sold at close to par, so no capital gain either? Am I being silly? Apologies if so, just never explored the SM.

Am I being silly? Apologies if so, just never explored the SM. As oldgrumpy said, you still receive the interest you have earned in the period you have held it. In addition, the instances where I can sell at a premium this also adds to the profit. Compounding interest also, allows me to invest these amounts straignt back again within a day or two. Of course I am talking about larger sums, so it all adds up quite quickly.

Also the price the borrower originally paid for it and the reputed amount spent on the roof etc..doesn't seem to be borne out in the VR

Looking at the photos there seems to be a lot of water on the floor etc and a huge amount of work to do... if this was my 1/4 mill I would not sleep at night but good luck to him or her...
