but I've spent a bit of time over the last couple of days having a stab at it, and my gut feel is that the valuation is in the right ballpark hope for the investors that you are correct - clearly a very specialist market so not for me. I wonder how much items such as "Daily Mirror Page 11 12/01/2013" are worth given that I read earlier in the forum "There was a loan against some Michael Jackson memorabilia that couldn't be sold easily"
oh well time will tell.

hate to think what the cataloging will cost but good decision in my view - having worked in the auction industry this is the sort of auction that can sink or fly.
I think this one went to auction in 2016? Plus there are loads for sale on ebay Another interesting one

Yes this definitely warrants a careful look over rather than trying to offload the whole lot. There's a lot of interesting and desirable items in there, and also a lot of mediocre stuff which is of limited interest. A lot of the items which are desirable have only a very limited market - for example the BBC transcription discs are very rare and can sell for £30-£100 each*, but can you find enough interested parties for an auction this size? There's also potentially legal issues surrounding the sale of some of this stuff - Bootleg vinyl/dodgy russian bones/etc. I hope they split the collection, I will definitely be looking to pick some bits up if they do, however if they only split it into chunks which value in the thousands I won't. I'm actually finding this all a bit exciting so might give a rundown of the collection and give my 2 cents on it just for fun ** *for the TOTPs ones, the Jam concerts are worth a fair few quid! www.discogs.com/The-Jam-BBC-Rock-Hour-223/release/6524484www.discogs.com/Spandau-Ballet-The-Jam-In-Concert-282/release/8973428www.discogs.com/The-Jam-In-Concert-219/release/8969635**on second thoughts maybe I could run the auction?

Be ironic if lenders (who I guess may be of an age to remember the Jam...) bought up the collateral repaying the loan!

THere's a lot of stuff here that's really hard to pin a value on - the stage costume stuff, the drum kit, the 2 original BPI Silver discs (not sure on the collectability of these but assuming it's high?)
Done right this could deliver a full return for investors, equally it might not! The valuer FS used reckoned at £25,000 for the drum kit - slightly different kettle of fish (different artist/fan base and was was a charity auction) but is anyone aware of the Eric Clapton Crossroads Auctions? Some of the items in that blew the auction house estimates clean out of the water.
