I was. Shame that the article is US oriented because I'd certainly take a look at an "automated small claims process" if one were available in the UK.

I also think the UK courts would have greater evidential causality requirements that needed to be shown in documents presented at the process start point.

I received a letter from Equifax about a week ago saying my personal data had been compromised in May last year.
However, while trying to withdraw money from FS for the fist time they, contacted me requesting additional bank account information (on the ground that Equifax didn't hold the necessary information on me).
Every cloud ... (as they say)

Letter arrived months ago, so they'll be taking time to get through it. I think there should be compensation for those affected. In the letter they've offered a range of services which would add to the number of places that my data is held. Unfortunately, I think their offering a year's subscription to a service will be seen as compensation by the government investigation into it.
It clearly doesn't compensate for their data breach. I think, in the future, we could be allowed a series of personal data officially issued after such a breach. The question is already raised as to what happens to ni number once entered on p2p site.

I too received a letter months ago and took up the services offered as a result of the breach (although not sure I wanted to share more data with them). I guess it may be years before we really know whether this has caused any problems as information/data can be held for a long time before it is used. I can't see the UK courts awarding compensation unless we can show that we have suffered (financially or through identity theft) as a result, but would be very interested in the outcome if anyone tried. Unfortunately with these Companies we have no choice as to whether we want them to hold our personal data.
