For those who have not visited the discussions currently taking place in this forum under COL, you might wish to do so. Especially note the mention of hacking & password changes to other platforms.

These are indeed very concerning developments for those invested widely across platforms. Thanks for the heads up. Lets hope this turns out to be just a very badly handled incident as I think some investors are (quite rightly) starting to fear the worse.

As a matter of interest and urgency - in the light of current events - could the MODS share with us the criteria used in the decision to "promote" [a word I use advisedly] a platform to the main page, and retain it there?
I believe COL is the most recent platform to be added...

OK, I stand corrected. But the SUBSTANTIVE question remains...

OK, I stand corrected. But the SUBSTANTIVE question remains... Suggest you look at the Quarterly Forum Usage Statistics thread on the Forum Feedback board

OK, I stand corrected. But the SUBSTANTIVE question remains... SteveT's just beaten me to it, but here's the link to those quarterly stats - very broadly speaking its all down to the members and based loosely on views and posts.

Suggest you look at the Quarterly Forum Usage Statistics thread on the Forum Feedback board Suggestions are always welcome, but I'd prefer an unambiguous answer... SteveT 's just beaten me to it, but here's the link to those quarterly stats - very broadly speaking its... based loosely on... I see. Perhaps a re-think is in order, based on er, something more tangible and robust, like longevity and track-record of management, etc., rather than just some form of "worm", manipulated potentially by god knows who ?

Quite. The forum staff are never going to go anywhere near a position where we appear to sanctify the fitness of any particular platform. As paul123 said, it's based on data. No approach is going to be perfect, but any other approach would be ridiculous.

Even if there is no scope for manipulation [of which I remain unconvinced the possibility does not exist], it's still an entirely ARBITRARY decision. Who decides the cutoff for promotion to the main page? Why not 5 sites instead of 10? Why not 15?
This isn't a football league or "Opportunity Knocks!" based on some dodgy clap-o-meter....
The whole concept of "promotion" is just WRONG, imho.

10 sort of fits on a regular size screen without too much scrolling, and has been the number on the main page (more or less) since before I joined the forum. If it was 15, someone wouldn't like that either. Platforms are in that group because they are the ones everyone wants to talk about / read about .. that may mean they are good, or it may mean the exact opposite - you have to read all the words to see.
Rather than complain about the number of readers/writers of their forum (bumping up a lot today!), it might be better to consider the number who voted for them in the 'best platform' poll last year.

Well, it will likely stay on the main page until the post count / view count slackens off enough to suggest that it should be replaced by another board.
Not the first to be promoted / demoted, neither will it be the last.

I forecast that the slackening off may not occur in this quarter!
Maybe 'In Administration' should be appended to the sub-forum name though .. just to ensure casual drive-by readers are under no illusions?

I would just point out that at the top of this section there is a sub-board called "Defunct P2x platforms", with the sub-text "A graveyard for threads on now defunct P2x platforms that may, or may not, be fondly remembered but nevertheless act as a reminder that platforms can, and do fail".
It will likely take some time, but you can expect the Col board to migrate there at some point.
